You may need a new foot pedal, or you didn't make a stitch length selection. Does it move up and down when you turn the handwheel towards you? Try unplugging the machine and plugging it in again. It is hard to diagnose when you didn't say what kind of machine it is, or the model number. Please supply that information and maybe I can help you.

What is smart pedal foot control for Bernina? I have a Patchwork Edition 140 and needle stop down should be controlled by pedal according to shop. I don't understand.

The foot control you are talking about will activate the needle down function on your machine. You need to press down on your heel on the foot control. This was the precursor to the automatic needle up/down option that is found on newer sewing machines that will automatically stop with the needle in the down position.

How do I fix the following problem with my Janome MC9000 sewing machine?

Unfortunately you are probably not going to be able to fix this.
It needs a sensor adjusted (probably), or a component replaced.

Why does the needle always stop down in the fabric?

I just took a look at your user's manual (I recommend you go to the Singer site and download it--it's free), and on page 20, it says that the top button of the set of three buttons above the needle shaft is the needle up/down button. If you press it when the machine is NOT sewing, it will reset it to stopping with the needle UP instead of DOWN. In other words, it resets the needle's default position, but you must do that when it isn't sewing anything.

I can not align my needle threaded on my Singer XL5000

Make sure your needle is fully seated and correctly inserted into your needle bar. Then make sure your needle is at it's lowest point before trying to use the threader.

Why isn't my husqvarna foot press not connecting giving power for my needle to move. Machine does have power but does not run when pressing foot press.

have you checked to make sure the foot pedal is connected correctly to the machine?
if the foot pedal is connected correctly, then the machine needs to be checked to see why it's not responding

I was sewing everything was fine. When I changed to zig zag it also worked but, when I switched to straight sewing and pressed the foot peddle the machine began to make a beeping sound and it won't go...

If the needle was on the down position when you switched stiches, this could have caused the problem. Raise the needle completely, power the machine off for 30 seconds, then power back on... Did that fix it?

The needle is stuck, not moving.its very hard and the motor makes a sound but needle does not move.

Refer to your manual and make sure the bobbin winding feature is disengaged.

Turn off the power and remove the needle and if there is fabric, remove it also.

Open the needle plate look for thread tangles.

After cleaning, turn the hand-wheel by hand to see if it moves the needle up and down.

If it does, press on the foot pedal to see if it is working.

Any of the above could be the problem.

Screen says that needle is in down position but it isn't. I have repeated pressed the raise needle button and the machine lowers and then raises the needle but the error message doesn't go awya.

Look for an optical sensor that the needle mechanism blocks when down. It's a small plastic rectangular package with a slot through the middle that the needle blocks with a vane of some kind. This slot can pick up lint and dust which makes the machine think that the needle is down. Clean the slot with a vacuum and a fine needle. Hope this helps.

Pfaff grand quilter 18.8 with Q-Bot, and having problems with the stitch regulator. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?

the up and down buttons are not working properly. When pressing the needle down button, the needle does go down and then comes right back up. pressing the needle up button makes the needle shoot up and down 2 times very fast. HELP
