Question about Datamax I-4208 Thermal Label Printer

1 Answer

I use a 4208-I model printer. The labels print out lightly, not dark enough for our scanner to pickup the bar-code. I have changed the ribbon, the labels, adjusted the tension, etc. with no luck. Can you make a suggestion before I go "Office Space" style and beat it to death with a baseball bat in an abandoned field?

Might I suggest increasing the temperature of the device if it is indeed possible, consult the manual in this regard.

Adjusting Datamax i class

If the ribbon is moving right on the I-4208 so far that you aren't getting print on the left of your label, the typical solution is to make sure that your ribbon roll is pushed all the way in, as far as it will go (at the top center of the printer on the black hub where the ribbon and it's cardboard core slide on). Similarly, make sure that the used ribbon that is winding on to the Rewind Hub at the top front is also in (to the left) as far as it will go).

Why is my ribbon tearing?

Ribbon usually gets teared due to the heat of the print head being set to high. Go to MENU MODE / PRINT CONTROL / HEAT and select a heat setting of 12 or 14.

If after the change affects your print quality being poor, your ribbon and label type combination is wrong or your print head needs to be re-aligned.

Hope this helps, good luck. (",)

Datamax M 4208 Printer - Barcode is missing when we print the label and we also get 10 extra blank labels with it. Please help me with a solution

Sometimes it's simply the Internet Browser settings. Go to File, then Page Setup and change the margins to 0.1 and all footers and headers to Blank or Empty.

Bar code printed on sato m5900 Rve printer will not scan. Same bar code printed on HP laser WILL scan. Font used is ID Automation 39 - prints at 6 pitch

Are you printing in thermal transfer mode or on thermal direct stock? Sounds like your image is not black enough for your scanner. Things to check: adjust printhead temperature, change ribbon stock, change thermal-direct stock, adjust scanner's sensitivity.

We are having trouble while printing bar coded labels, there are streaks going across the label what can stop this from happening?

If streaks are perfectly vertical and always present, probably your printhead is scratched and needs to be replaced. Unless the streaks are diagonal and intermittent - then you need adjustment for ribbon wrinkle.

Label print too light

This could be caused by the darkness setting coming from the label software / printer driver. It's set too low and that setting will usually override the darkness setting in the printer. That's why test labels are fine.

Hope that helps.

How to improve the resolution for Datamax I-4208? Can i change my printhead (KPA-104-8MTA4-DMX2 655) for other with more resolution??(I-4406, or A-4408) anyone knows if it works?

1. If your printhead doent have burn element no need to change and if your platen roller is uneven change it.
2. check the setting of your darkness both printer and the job data
3. check the quality of your ribbon and label if this is match. some cheap ribbon is poor on quality.

Zebra Z4MPlus not printing dark enough

In your label software there should be a setting option for print darkness (I assume it adjusts the head temperature) In ours (bartender) you can get to it when you select 'print' and a window appears with a 'documents properties' button. Click on this and select options and a darkness bar appears which you can adjust. You may also need to slow the label print speed if the darkness adjustment is not enough. I suspect it isn't in the printers best interest to run the print head at maximum darkness/heat so a sensible balance of darkness and print speed is best.
Another, less likely, possibility is an incompatability between the label material or surface finish, and the ribbon type. We did have a problem once whem Homebase changed their price label design and we had to test a load of other ribbon types until we got one that did the job. A chat with the label or ribbon supplier is always usefull, they sent us several sample bits to test.

Display reads ready, but when print is press the labels run but nothing is printed on the labels.

Is your label "direct thermal"? or using a ribbon to print.

If using ribbon, high probability that you install the ribbon the other way around.
