Question about Elna 1010

1 Answer

I have an Elna 1010. I have not used it for several years. When I turned it on and pressed the foot petal all the way down, it sounded like something was going to happen, but nothing did. I am in the process of cleaning and oiling the machine now. if this does not work, what else should I try? Thanks.

If you have not used it for several years and now not getting any drive action, then it is possible one of the gears inside it has failed, broken or siezed up. This would be inside the free arm or near the motor probably.

I would suggest that you take it to a sewing machine repair shop and get it serviced, all machine manufacturer's recommend a service every 1-2 years to lube internally, clean out and address any issues. Just the same as getting the car serviced.

My local shop charges $80 for a service/clean plus any parts to be replaced, well worth the money in my humble opinion.

No foot switch for Elna Su (1972-78?)-can I use the foot petal from an Elna Zigzag that I have?

I'm asuming you have the integrated foot controller and power lead in one, yes these are both Swiss Tavaro made machines and should have the same plug shape so should be interchangeable. Also the bobbins should be identical, seven holes on top and dished. And the feet should be the same too.

Can a genic foot pedal be used on an Elna Super?

Take a look at the side plate on your Elna and look for a two digit code, this is the model number.

I'm assuming that you are in the USA on 110 Voltage. If so visit this website, and choose your model. They sell replacement foot pedals, just check the profile of the plug that goes into your machine.

The other option is contact the Elna guru,, he stocks a wide range of swiss Elna parts and may have the original foot control second hand.

If you are on 240 voltage then you'll need to source it from a country that has the same voltage like UK, Australia or NZ.

Lastly, you may wish to join the Yahoo group called "ELna Heirlooms" this user group of Elna owners is really helpful and shares lots of their love and knowledge for these beautifully made Swiss machines. Many of them have even earlier models than yours such as the Green Grasshopper, the first Elna machine.

I need to replace the electrical lead and pedal to connect to my elna machine model 1010 , any idea where to look?

try for this, I'm assuming you are in the USA and need 110V foot control and lead? If not and you need a 240V cable, might need to try further afield. is also a good source for sewing machine parts

I have a ELNA model 1010 and there seems to be no tension when do a test strip it bloobs up

Try re-threading the machine with the presser foot up.

This opens the tension and allows the thread to "seat".

Thread with the presser foot down and the tension is closed and the thread cannot seat.

Elna 9000 presser foot

This is a cleaning issue. There is gummy residue holding your presser foot bar which needs to be cleaned out. Unfortunately, you need to split the case on your machine to access it for cleaning and this is best done by a qualified technician. Let's face it, it's probably been a long time since the machine was serviced anyway and they do work better with regular servicing.

Try contacting Elna directly, or find your nearest agent thru their website, if in USA

having this photo should help trace a part number if you can get onto an Elna service technician, if it were Janome, I could look up our references, so it should be straightforward.
