Question about Apple MacBook Mac Notebook

1 Answer

Hi, The Entourage icon on my dock showed a question mark and would not open. I figured I would take it out of the dock, find it in the applications folder and drag it to the dock again. The only problem is that it is not in my applications folder anywhere. I just read the blog on this website that says the mac does not automatically create an alias for entourage in the applications menu, which I did not know before I removed it from my dock. Is there anyway to recover the program?

You need to reinstall the software using the Microsoft Office disc.

Hope this helps.

How do i get icons at bottom screen in i mac

If you want to add the application icons to the bottom of the screen (or Dock) there are a couple of ways to do this.

1.) Open a window in Finder and go to 'Applications', simply drag the application you want to appear in the Dock toward the bottom of the screen and release when the app icon is where you want it to be.

2.) Launch the application you want to appear in the Dock. When the app is running, the icon will appear in the Dock on the right side, to make it stay there even when you quit the app, simply right-click (if mouse supports it) or control click and from the pop-up select 'Options' and chose 'Keep in Dock'.

You can move the icons around in the Dock by click and holding on them and dragging them around to the location you want... and to remove an icon from the Dock just drag it off the Dock into the main area of the screen and release.

Hi, my icon is missing from the dock, i can click on recent items and it re-appears. How do i keep it back on the dock as once i switch off its gone again. Thanks

I'm assuming by your use of the term "dock" you are using Mac OS X. You can keep an open application in the dock by right clicking(or control-clicking) its icon, selecting "options" and then "keep in dock"

I cant connect to safari or itunes in imac OS X. A question mark symbol appears in both icons, I am able to connect to internet via windows lap top however.

I am taking it when you talking about icons it is the ones in the dock. What I think is happening is these icons have lost their association with the relevant applications. To get rid of the icons click and hold down the icons in the dock and then drag them onto the desktop this will delete the icons not the applications from the dock.

Now go to your applications folder and check that itunes and safari are in the folder. Once you have found them just single click on them and then drag them onto the dock. This should correct the problem.

If the applications are not in the folder you will have to download them from apple site again and reinstal them. Then you can use the method above to put the icons back on the dock.

Hope this helps.

Sytem preferences on mac 10.0 cheetah wont open

If you don't have the System Preferences in the Dock, just drag the icon from Finder under Applications to the Dock. On the other hand, if the icon is misbehaving in the Dock, then right click on the icon in the Dock and select Options>Remove from Dock and then do what I wrote in the first sentence.
If the above did not help you try this, go  to the dock, and, while holding down the "control key", select the System Preferences icon. This opened up a dialogue box with few choices...then choose "Quit". Then System Preference application  opened.

Is there a way to show all of my open OSX applications across the center of my screen so I can select any one with one mouse click?

Just hold down the Command key and press the Tab key (Command-Tab). Mac OS X immediately displays a mini-Dock with icons for each of your open applications. At the left side of the mini-Dock, you’ll see the icon for your current application. Next to it (and highlighted), you’ll find the icon for the application you last used. Each time you press the Tab key (without releasing the Command key), you can cycle through your open applications.

System Preferences won't launch from apple menu or dock.

This just indicates that the dock icon can not find the finder preferences folder, just delete the icon from the dock. Then go to your applications folder find the system preferences and just drag it onto the dock that will fix it.

Appleworks 6

It appears the application was deleted or has become corrupted. The dock is just a shortcut, but if youre running 10.4 go to  the spotlight search window on the top left, try a search for the application.

Hope this helps.
