Question about Poulan Pro 16-Inch 38 cc Anti-Vibration Chainsaw #PP3516AVX

1 Answer

My Poulan Pro 16 will not go into gear-the chain break is stuck. When I pull it forward to start the blade rotating it does not. and the activating bar seems suddenly loose. Engine starts fine, I eventook the blade off to see if it was binding and still it won't go into gear.

To de activate the chain brake you need to pull the hand back fully back to the top handle not forward.it mat take a little more force than you might expect.

Why pole saw wont saw?

There could be a couple of reasons why your saw won't cut.
The first thing I would check is to make sure you have your chain facing the right way.
The chisel edges should be facing forward, or in the direction the saw chain is rotating.
If this is not the problem, then I suspect the chain itself is dull.

The chain will not move. if it is off the thing it goes around is bound up tight.

If the chain will not rotate around the bar it is possible the chain brake has activated, grab the hand guard and pull it fully back to the top handle, it should click as the brake locks.

I have a Poulan Pro 16 inch chain saw that will not lubricate the chain. I have cleaned the ports and made sure the reservoir is clean.

It sounds like a bad oil pump or worm gear; this should help
Oil System Plugged:
1. Remove the clutch cover, bar, and chain, clean the bar groove, any holes and passages on the rear of the bar (both sides, consider rotating the bar), if equipped with a sprocket nose ensure it rotates easily at least one complete revolution.
• Clean the saw oiler hole and channel. Insert a blunted, hooked piece of wire through the oil filler hole and pull the hose in the oil tank out.
• Pay attention to the screen or filter on the free end (clean or replace, difficult to determine serviceability).
• Start the saw and see if it oils when revved up (oozes down side of saw).
• If yes reassemble your saw. If no, continue with 2.
2. Work your way through the linkage (use IPL to identify components and locations) cleaning and replacing any defective parts as you go.
• Carefully check the hoses for cracks especially at bends and connections.
• If equipped with an oil pump it is usually behind the clutch (99.9% of clutches have a left handed thread; tighten it to remove it).
• Please make extensive notes & some digital pictures will help during reassembly.
3. If it does not oil on completion of 1 it is most likely a bad oiler or worm gear (see IPL for the location).

The IPL (exploded parts list) for your saw is the only detail for the oil system and it is sketchy at best. Oiler components and part numbers are listed but may be on different illustrations. They are also beneficial with disassembly/reassembly:

I have a Poulan PRO PP3516AVX and it's not pumping oil to the chain/blade. Solution

Remove the clutch (left hand thread) and sprocket, undoe the screws for the pump and you will prob find the plastic pump gear stripped due to lack of cleaning and greasing...cost about $110 AU$

Mower blades locked

You may have broke the flywheel key. if that broke it will not start. The key is important for the proper ignition timing. They break so you dont damage the crankshaft. It may be a big job if you dont know your way around a small engine.

Chain saw motor runs but chain doesn't

There are a couple of reason the saw blade will not turn.
- Make sure you have bar and chain oil in saw.
-Make sure oil is running on the saw blade and chain.
-Make sure the clutch is not stuck.
- Make sure the bar sprocket is not frozen.
-The safety kick back guard needs to be re-set.
-Shut off saw. Push and pull guard.
Please let me know what you find.

Poulan 18" Chainsaw - Motor runs fine but blade stopped spinning

Chain may be locked in the bar. Caused by low oil flow to chain. You will probably have to remove the bar and blade. Then try to rotate the sprocket, if it will not rotate you may have to replace or repair the clutch. with the blade off try starting the saw and see if it is oiling. There is a small hole in housing that oil should be visible coming out at a fairly good rate. If not you will either have to open orifice in the housing or repairing the oil pump.

Poulan 16" cannot start...pull cord locked up

Remove the cover, should be 4 screws that holds it on once the 4 screws are loosened the rope could rewind on its own. If not check to make sure the spring is not broken.

I NEEN A OWER MANUAL for a poulan chain saw 2150

its pretty easy to do with a file. first make sure you buy the right size file to fit right in the tooth. look closley at the chain and figure how to place the file on it. the point is to sharpen the side and top of the cutting part of the tooth .always file one way away from yourself. hold the file at an 45 DEGREE angle, and push forward. the trick is to push forward and up at the same time, and always go one direction. start on one side and mark your starting point with tape, go down one side then flip the saw and down the other. you dont have to push hard just enough to were you can see tiny metal fall off. lemme know if you have a problem
