Question about AOC L22W898 22 in. LCD TV

1 Answer

I have an AOC L22W898. It worked fine for a couple of days but then one day I turned it on and the orange light in the front panel blinks constantly at intervals of about 5 seconds but never turns on. Any ideas???

Thanks for the help! Actually I've had it for about a year and I just got back so warranty is already over. If you could help it would be great I can try to fix it myself. I was trying to find the reply link but couldn't. Thanks!

If the unit is only a few days old, I'd take it back under warranty for a replacement.

I have an idea what's wrong, but it involves ripping the unit apart and replacing parts, which would void your warranty - meaning if something more serious were wrong later, OR if there is more wrong with it than I think there is, you've lost your protection!
I never advise anyone to void their warranty, but if you REALLY REALLY want to try and fix it yourself, click the reply link here, and I'll help you out.

There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it on, eventually it'll probably come on, but every time you turn it off, the TV will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for 5 mins or more, then try.

If you aren't tech savvy, don't worry, read the rest of this and pay attention to the videos.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are positive it's only doing ripple filtering, and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.

I found some great videos of the procedure (for many Samsungs with the same issue) on youtube.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm51C_RDI...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNHHrgX_6...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l0AUj8QU...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7b_nTaZY...

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors.
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.

Thank you! I will definitely try that out. I anticipated your post so I went and checked the caps for but can't find any that are bad (at least superficially). I am actually an IT tech so I have some degree of expertise in electronics and have opened up a couple TVs before. Anyway, I will check the videos and let you know how it went. Thanks again!

P.S. Would you happen to know where I could look for an LCD screen (even if it's generic) for a Sony Bravia? A friend gave me his that has a broken screen, otherwise works perfect. I trying to see if I can find a cheap replacement screen but cheapest I've seen is $1000! Thanks for your time.

REMOTE doesn't work on AOC L22W898

Change your batteries. Clean the battery contacts. Use a digital camera pointed at the LED on the remote to see if it is working. It might actually be the TV, but it is usually the remote.

No picture, but have sound on AOC L22W898

Does it do this in both TV and monitor mode or just monitor mode? If in both modes, the high voltage power supply that provides power to illuminate the screen is probably bad.
Have a repair shop check the high voltage power supply.

Hello I just bought AOC L22W898 22" Class LCD HDTV and i tried to connect it to sony play saton with HDMI but it is can's be connect it says no signal. Other inputs working perfectly. I tried to...

It might be that the PS3 is sending an incompatible signal to the TV. I'd connect the PS3 using normal RCA jacks, and make sure that the video mode in the PS3 menu is set to auto.

Envision Series / AOC 22 hdtv monitor

Probably blown capacitors, the 19" widescreen uses 6 16V 1000uF
Do you have a soldering gun? Its not that hard to fix, get the capacitors on ebay for $6-$8 with shipping.
