Question about Dishwashers

2 Answers

I have a portable Sears dishwasher model # 66517769k600. It makes grinding noises when empying out the water, then stops. Sounds like maybe something is jaming the inpeller blades on the pump that removes the water as Water is left in dishwasher. It will restart in about 15 mins , run for 15 to 20 sec and stop again with same noises. What needs to be done to fix this issue? Approximate cost of part? Thanks in Advance, Chris

no it is not a grinding metal to metal sound.

Is the pump acessable from underneath?

How much of the interior aSSEMBLY needs to be removed. if any?

Ok .I have determinrd that the problem is/are most likely 2 small pieces of broken plastic, (found a hard plastic item with 2 chips missing ,each about the size of a dime. ) I believe these are what are caught in the impeller. Can I remove the spray arm and other parts to work my waydown and get to the impelled from the inside of the dishwasher? The drain hose is not the problem. the motor is def. vibrating. Thanks, Chris

I need a little more specifics. Are you saying to drop the motor from the underneath side?

There are 5 plastic cams that apperar to allow this. What then? I would think this is sealed. How does that let me get to the impeller? Also the parts Diagram says I need a special tool to recenter the pump. True?

    Thanks Again

    Chris

    I have a portable Sears dishwasher model # 66517769k600.

It makes grinding noises when it starts, then it stops. I have determined the problem is/are 2 small pieces of hard plastic that broke off an item being washed. I believe they are jaming the pump impellar.

The motor will run with lots of noise, then it will stop and will restart in about 15 mins , run for 15 to 20 sec and stop again with same noises.

What needs to be done to fix this issue? Ie, How to remove enough of the parts and which ones to remove inorder to access the drain/impellar and to remove these 2 pieces of plastic? I have already removed and checked the drain hose.
I need a fairly step by step answer

    Thanks in Advance,
    Chris

Hi.

First check and if needed replace the filter.

If the noise is grinding metal, then your diagnosis may be correct (cross finger the pump in question is the outlet pump. The main impeller pump is expensive). The blades inside the outlet drain pump are damaged and making noise. Before replacing the pump, clean the drain well, then access the pump, and remove blockage from pump hose if any. Blocked drain lines can make noise. You need to be sure that noise is coming from the pump.

Here related parts.

Here all parts and diagrams for your dishwasher.

    Hi.

The ultra wash should have an access panel retained by screws at the bottom in front:

About parts to be removed, there is not much to be removed. You are not going to replace the pump, that is fine. Remove the cover and you will see the hose going to the pump. Disconnect the hose, remove blockage, and be prepared with containers to remove water. Disconnect power cord or trip circuit breaker before starting.

    Hi.

If possible I suggest working from underneath the dishwasher.I think that the bottom panel is secured to the side panels on this compact.

Here the frame and panels exploded view. Click on this link, then click on the picture to enlarge.

    Regards.

Washer makes grinding noise but isn't doing anything else

Remove the cap off the agitator, flip back the top of the console, remove any nuts keeping the tub in the console. There will be a clutch ring that needs to be replaced. I have an older top load washing machine. I agitates, fills, and drains, but it won't spin. It sounds like it is spinning, but it doesn't. It might be the coupling. That is a 3 piece kit that goes between the transmission and the motor. I found the directions how to do it over the internet, got the part and fixed it myself.

it could be a crinkle in the drain pipe or slight block, the pumps do make some sounds from time to time. it some time can even be the rubber grommets were the pump sits.

Grinding noise when first starts running after filling with water

Do you know if your dishwasher has a built in disposal to grind up food particles that end up in the water? Could be a problem with that, or maybe with the pump.
Is water being moved about with the arms spinning.
I would call an appliance repair shop with your model # to find out what they think.

Dishwasher makes grinding noise when running

Sounds like you have debris like broken glass in the chopper assembly of your sump assembly. Best of to call a Certified Repair Company such as Sears if you are not mechanically inclined.

Load grinding noise, like the engine is working too hard.

Most likely the motor/pump assembly is worn out and grinding. If the machine is less than five years old it is under warranty. If over five years old, the repair part alone is about $150 not including labor.

GE dishwasher model GLD4200 making a growling noise

I do not know of these machines but would say it sounds like bearings related to its rotating arm if it has to deal with water.
It would have a seal at the back before the bearings which has failed so water has leaked onto it causing rust to form in the bearing which builds up fuses the ball bearings together in clumps, make it hard to rotate so you get a grinding noise followed later by squeaks as things deteriorate.
So sadly it needs a service call out or it will grind to a halt, this happens say after a few days of non use letting the rust level build up.
You can use it but at some point it will not be able to rotate and it will just stop with some odd error message if it has that ability. Sorry for the answer.

Hope this helps...........

LG Dishwasher making grinding noise then blinking E1 code 10 minutes later

Well done by resolving this problem. The other way to avoid the siphoning problem through the drain hose is adding an air gap valve/connector (available at any hardware store). You can use it even if you don't have a garbage disposal in your kitchen sink. That will assure that you have the proper height of the drain hose.
Hope this helps!
