I would like to upgrade my processor on my dell Inspiron one 23. It currently has a AMD Athlon II X2 250U (1.6G) in it. I would like to upgrade to a AMD Athlon II X2 240E (2.8G) or the AMD Athlon II X2 255 (3.1G). I have pulled up all specs on these chip and the only difference is wattage, speed, and bus speed. The sockets, type, L2 cashe, CMOS, and stepping are all the same. currently in system 250u 25W, 1.6G, 3600 240e 45W, 2.8G, 4000 255 65W, 3.1G, 4000 could you help me out. Jim

Well according to the dell website, upgrading to a Athlon II X2 240E @ 2.8GHz or a AMD Athlon II X4 610E @ 2.3GHz should work fine as there is a Inspiron One model that comes with either of these chips with no extra increase in the systems power supply.

With regards to the AMD Athlon II X2 255
I would not recommend this chip as it is more of a CPU for a tower case system and not an all-in-one. You will get heat issues as the CPU heat sink recommended for a AMD Athlon II X2 255 is much larger than the ones used in this Dell Inspiron One 2305. You must see the Dell Inspiron One 2305 as a sort of laptop.

Dell has specifically designed this system to run on a choice of 3 processors, namely:
AMD Athlon™ II X4 610E (2.3GHz/2MB cache)
AMD Athlon™ II X2 240E (2.8GHz/2MB cache)
AMD Athlon™ II X2 250U (1.6GHz/2MB cache)

You currently have the low end CPU, if you want to upgrade to a faster Dual Core option then the AMD Athlon™ II X2 240E @ 2.8GHz is the way to go. If you're thinking of going the way of Quad Core then get a AMD Athlon™ II X4 610E @ 2.3GHz. These are your only two options if you want a stable environment.

As long as the new one works in the same socket type then just take off the heatsink pull out the old processor, put the new one, put new thermo paste on the new proc and attach the heatsink. You can get the paste at radioshack. Only put a dime sized drop on the cpu.

I cant use f3 key to disable battery charging for dell inspiron m101z.

You have to Press and Hold the FN function key at the lower left portion of the keyboard, then hit the F3 key. Hitting the F3 key alone will do nothing.

You can run the diagnostics in your pc. When you turn on the pc tap F12 and select the diagnostics. It is a possible hardware failure.
