Most of these problems are associated with an I.C. on the board that governs the HHD. Unfortunately, the chip gets pitted (overheats) on the GaAs and is ruined. The green light (LED) on the HHD will turn on as it is getting power but the main chip that controls the HHD no longer works thus rendering the HHD inoperative.
Bottom line, get a new external drive. Should you get the same model or something similar to what type of electronic hardware you have, you can remove the new HHD and put your old HHD in its place and you will see that all of your data is still intact.
Turn on the unit and than it will be recognized by the computer. The green light will light with the system in the off position as it indicates the unit is charging recieving power, just press the on button and the display should come alive.
Most likely the pendrive is no longer working. The simplest way to check that, is to try it in another computer and see if it's recognized. If this is the case then the USB ports on your computer are not working which I doubt.
If it is seen as unknown device that means that the electronics in the flash drive got bad and it is unrecoverable.
Green light is on mine, but USB port shows no device. When I plug it in, I get "found new device" message, but no icon on my desktop. None of my messengers recognize it either. It does show up in cameras and scanners though...I'm so confused.
The USB Isn,t supplying/providing enough Power to the device.
Search e-bay or similar for a 2 into 1 USB Cable.
Then power the unit with 2 USB Ports on the Computer.
2 x USB Into 2 x Sockets On P.C. 1 x Into Device Drive.
This will be enough power to operate the Device Correctly.
I,ve done this on several external Drives, never failed for Me.
