Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

My problem is that I have a sound on my television, but there is no picture. Do you think that the picture tube has gone out? This television was a gift to me and I really don't want to do away with it.

Hi knttharrison,
No, the most common parts affected was the vertical deflection IC. If this parts was faulty same symptom will be encountered. A lot of this symptom I've encountered, the parts above was the caused. Secondary fault was the open fusible resistor in line with the B+ of the picture tube. This fault need to check with a qualified technician.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Is my picture tube gone in my seiki hd tv because i can hear sound but i cant see a picture

These TVs do not have a tube, You get tubes in CRT TVs only!

It could be the backlight screen inverter PCB has gone, to test if you shine a torch light at the screen with the TV on and can see a faint picture then it is probably the inverter.

Tv comes on sound only. No picture

If this is the old style CRT TV then it sounds like the picture tube has gone, the Cathode Ray Tube is not an economical replacement.....unfortunately it will have to be disposed of and replaced!

Hisense 50in hd tv has no picture but has sound

Sounds like either the CCFL tube (like a mini florescent tube) or the inverter that powers it has blown.

No picture omly sound

Depends how old it is but i do think that it will be cheaper to buy a new TV rather than repair this one ,if the picture has gone then its most likely the output transformer that supplies the power for the tube and although this isnt that dear on older TVs is the labour charge to do it .Treat yourself to a new LCD one

Picture is very red.

This sounds like the video amp for the blue and green picture tubes has gone bad. Have a tech look at the IC's to determine if the ICs are the culprits or the picture tubes (very unlikely but possible)

Picture's gone--sounds fine!

This is very likely not the picture tube. I suspect that something in the vertical oscillator section has gone bad. You will need to get the schematics for this set. Locate the vertical section and look at the transistors and IC's to see if they are still good. Also check for bad solder joints and open resistors. You can do all the checking with a simple Digital Volt Meter. You can get all the info you need online for how to test transistors, diodes, electrolytic capacitors and resistors. Most of my TV fixes have involved bad solder joints that have gone bad after years of hot/cold cycles , usually under a component that gets hot (heat sync) , resistor, or heavy item such as a transformer. The other issues are usually with transistors or IC's that have gone bad due to power surges or age degradation. Sometimes fuseable resistors open open. Sorry I can't be more specific. There are too many things to check. Could also be a power supply issue. but highly unlikely if you still have a center line. TV tubes hardly ever go bad unless the set is very old.

Picture is gone! :*(

the picture tube (what makes the TV picture work) has blown out. Just call you nearest tv reapair shop and purchase a new one. (these are kind of expensive!)

(Also, if it's fifteen years old, i think it's time to get a new T.V. hint. hint.)

it is 100% sure that your tube is ok.

there are few problems in different section like

  • sound section for no sound
  • video & crt base  due to low light in picture.
  • red video output circuit.
  • though problems are very easy & can be fixed at your house.but you need skilled technician.
