These models have a solenoid interlock that has to be unlocked in the BIOS to release the case. The solenoid sticks a pin into the lid and stops it sliding forward.. I think it's under 'security'/ 'lock'/ 'enable'

All computers open on one side or the other. Some are held closed with just a thumb screww while others will have two philips head screws that must be removed. remove these screws and slide the side panel to the back. Look on the back of the computer for a lifted edge of the case. This is the side you will be removing.

Upgrade BIOS to see if it will resolve hardware issue with new stick of RAM

Hi Szusza,

The new RAM module you purchased may be faulty, it is definitely possible that either due to a fault of the new RAM or on the slot you are trying to install it to cause the computer to not fully boot.

Have you tried to boot the computer with the new module only?
If not please try this:

Replace the original RAM module with the new one (make sure you insert the new RAM in the same slot you took the old one out)
If the PC boots you know the new RAM is fine.
If this does not work I would suggest getting your new RAM tested.

If it does work, put the original RAM back in the computer (in a new slot) if it does not boot after that then, there is possibly a problem with the RAM slot on the motherboard.

I have a Gateway zx4351. Can I upgrade to a dedicated video card from my GeForce 9200?

It is possible... Yes.

Is it worth it... Maybe the ram upgrade to 8GB is worth the money...

Also, some all in one computers are very hard to even figure out how to open. You better make sure you can do it before you try. You also might want to check if opening the case voids your warranty too.

I recently purchased Two PNY 1Gb ram to upgrade from original 512mb. When I put both 1Gb ram in the slots, the computer will not boot up. When I take one out and put the original 512 back in with the other...

I don't know your specific model, but some of the Emachines had some memory directly on the motherboard. With the 1Gb and 512Mb sticks installed, boot the machine and report how much memory the system sees. Perhaps the onboard memory is causing you to exceed the 2Gb limit.

Please post the memory size you get here with the above sticks.

Thanks,
Dan

HOW DO I install new memory in acer aspire L320

First step would be to lookup your system specs either in your manual or at the Acer website. See what RAM is compatible with your system. Once this is done purchase what you need. Open the case and you should see the RAM modules & slots. If you are replacing RAM you will need to remove the old first. If you are adding to empty slots just line it up properly and seat it in the open slots. Close the case and reboot. System should automatically recognize the new specs. Make sure you disconnect power and properly ground yourself before touching anything inside your case. Hope this helps.

Incorrect RAM reported on BIOS

4GB RAM requires a 64 bit compatible processor AND Operating System to be able to access
addresses in memory that exceed the 32 bit assress space.

I'm not familiar with the motherboard that you are using but simply expanding RAM isn't enough if your
system isn't 64 bit compliant. Assuming it is, then ensure that you are using a 64 bit version of Windows 7 opposed to a 32 bit release candidate.

Fans will spin but no other HD Activity or lights

Do you get any LED flashing or spinning on your CD/DVD drive(s)? If not, it is most likely the power supply. If you have or know someone with a digital voltmeter you can open the case, disconnect all the power connectors and measure the outputs. If you need to know the voltages, here is a pinout pic.

Memory upgrade

First step : Make sure the memory you purchased meets the following specifications

"168pin PC133 SDRAM DIMM" which should be easily accessible from wherever you bought it.

If not, then you can find memory here. that the company guarentee's will work with your system. Also - You want to make sure the memory that was in your system to begin with is identical to the memory you are sticking in it to get it to 512MB Systems that are this old with "PC133 SDRAM" are very picky about what kind of ram you stick in them. Make sure wherever you purchase your memory from, has a guarentee that it will work in the make/model of your computer.

I have a Philips Easylife LX3000 computer and wish to upgrade the RAM from 2Gb to 4Gb. Please would you send me a diagram or describe which panel I need to remove to reveal the RAM ports. Also would you...

Go to http://www.kingston.com and look up your model there, and find out what memory is available. Not all computers can take 4 GB of memory.

To access the RAM, you need to power down the machine, and open the case. RAM sits in DIMM slots on the motherboard.

To remove RAM, there are small latches on each side of the slot, open them carefully so they don't break. Lift the memory stick out gently.

If you break the latches (happens to all of us!) just make sure the memory is seated firmly in the slot. The computer will still run.

To insert RAM, notice that there is a small notch along the bottom of the stick, it needs to line up with the corresponding bump in the slot. Push the stick in gently but firmly until it locks in place.

Go slow, have plenty of light available, and you should be able to make this upgrade yourself.

If I've solved your issue, please mark this problem as "Fixya", if not please let me know what else I can do for you with a comment.

Good Luck,
Airoff

Acer l100 memory upgrade

I just attempted this, and I must say that there are many things about the other solutions that just plain wrong. Here is my step-by-step:
  1. Choose your RAM. Use the memory advisor from Crucial to tell you which ram to use: http://www.crucial.com/. I used their PC 5300 2*1GB kit. You can RAM from any retailer, as long as it is the same type recommended by the memory advisor.
  2. Lay the case flat and remove the screw in the middle of the top plate at the back, then slide the top plate off. You will probably have to break the warranty seal to do this.
  3. There are three black clips that hold the front bezel onto the top section. Prise them upwards and the bezel will come away.
  4. There is a black screw on the motherboard near the back, holding down a piece of metal attached to the top section (drive bays). Remove this screw, then pull gently on the plastic handle on the top section to loosen it.
  5. Lift the top section so that you can pull the power and IDE cables from the hard drive at the back, then lift it fully upwards. Be careful of the ribbon cable underneath, you may need someone to hold it up for you while you change the RAM.
  6. To remove the old RAM, do not simply prise it upwards as someone else said. The RAM slot has a metal clip at each side; push these outwards to the sides until they click. This releases the RAM so that they can be lifted out.
  7. Slide the new RAM into the bays and push it down to lock it into place. Make sure both sides click properly.
  8. Reassemble the case in reverse order, taking care to get everything stowed away in the right place. Take care remounting the front bezel to make it is properly in place before clicking the tabs back on top.
Hope someone finds this useful. By the way, while i can in there I noticed an empty expansion bay: anybody know what this is?
