Question about TallyGenicom 8008 Laser Printer

Hi I have a second hand Tally Genicom 8008 and I can't get it to print anything. I've just downloaded a printer driver for it and am using it with an iMac with OS X Leopard. When I send something to print, it tells me that it's printing, but it isn't! It does say it needs a new C toner cartridge, but would this stop it from printing? Hope you can help! Moira

First is worth checking the C (cyan) toner is not causing the problem with printing, the easiest way to do this is to print a configuration or test page via the menu on the printer to see if it will print. If the printer will print a page via its menu it should then be capable of printing from the computer system,

The Menu / Test Page can be printed in the following way;

  • Put the printer OFFLINE
  • Press the MENU/ENTER button
  • The display should read
  • Press the MENU/ENTER button
  • The display should read
  • Press the MENU/ENTER button
The printer should print a page, if it does not it sounds like the cyan toner is empty and is stopping the printer printing.

If the Menu / Test page prints ok this indicates the problem may be connectivity or driver related.

The first thing I would say is there are issues with printing to the the 8008 from Mac's particularly with the Intel processors.
There are also issues with versions 10.4 and over.

Some suggestions,

  1. Print using TCP/IP, ensure the printer has a IP Address set and also the port on the Mac is set to the same IP address. (dont use Apple Talk)
  2. Ensure you have the driver for the 8008 (not the IP8008) the IP8008 driver will not print to the 8008 and vice versa.
  3. Try printing from a simple application for example Sticky Notes, just to see if the problem may be down to the size of data files.

I need a linux driver for tally genicom 8008 colour printer. Does anyone have one? or know where to get one?


I have the same printer and run Linux Mint 13. Here's what I did:

Went to http://foo2slx.rkkda.com/ and followed the instructions for installing a Lexmark c500n.

Opened a browser and went to http://localhost:631 (the CUPS admin page).

=> CUPS for Administrators => Adding Printers and Classes
Add printer.
Follow the instructions until you reach a page with "Or Provide PPD File" at the bottom. Click "Choose File".
Navigate to where you unpacked the foo2zjs driver, there should be a folder in there called PPD: you want Lexmark-C500.ppd

Set what defaults you want do some printing.

When you have finished marvelling, perhaps give a thought to donating to the chap at foo2zjs for his hard work...

I have printer genicom 4440 xt and have not a driver i want a diver for this printer thank you


Just try using a generic print driver in windows. This driver will send standard ASCII code and the printr should allow you to print standard text. try it.

Tally 8008 not printing mac OSX 10.5.6 leopard


Found a solution. We connected 8008 printer to imac running Tiger & we can now print via network on any of our emacs running Leopard. Not ideal but at least we can now use the printers. I would still love a dedicated driver to work direct but I suppose this will do for now.

The residual image often occurs if the Transfer Drum cleaning roller is not located correctly in the printer, as this cleans the previous image of the transfer drum. In some cases where the printer has been moved or shipped, this cleaning roller may need to be relocated in the printer to ensure it is in contact with the transfer drum.

I believe the cleaning roller on the 8008 is located just behind the OPC belt, try removing this and clean the contacts at each and of the cleaning roller.
Ensure the cleaning roller fits back in the printer ok and give it a try.

replace whole cartridge, if problem still exist then you have go fuser roller ( heat roller ).
