The most common cause of a dryer that will not turn on, is a blown thermal fuse, defective door switch, bad power cord, or a broken drum belt.

If the voltage at the wall receptacle is correct, check the voltage again at the terminal block where it connects to the dryer. Make sure you UNPLUG the dryer and remove the the small access cover where the power cord is installed. You should read 220-240VAC at the wall receptacle and terminal block. If BOTH readings are good, the problem is INTERNAL to the dryer. If bad at the receptacle, you need to double check the power source that feeds the wall receptacle. Some homes use two separate 120VAC breakers instead of one 220-240VAC breaker. Make sure the breaker(s) is not tripped. If the reading is normal at the wall receptacle, but bad at the terminal block, replace your power cord.

If the problem is internal, the thermal fuse will be mounted on the blower fan housing. It is a small plastic looking component (usually white in color) with two wires attached to it. Disconnect the wires before taking any resistance checks. If the fuse is good, it should read something close to zero ohms. If bad, you will read an infinite reading. These fuses DO NOT reset and must be replaced if bad.
The thermal fuse is usually located on the blower fan housing inside the dryer. On the model number you provided, the thermal fuse is accessed by removing the toe panel directly below the dryer door. The blower fan housing is located directly behind the panel, with the thermal fuse mounted on top (refer to parts drawing at the website(s) provided - the thermal fuse is listed as item 59 under the "Bulkhead Parts" listing. Part number 3392519).

NOTE: For an exploded view diagram of your dryer, refer to any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com

NOTE: If the thermal fuse is blown, it generally blows for a reason. This could be an indication that you have a clog in the ventilation system, causing the dryer to overheat. Do a thorough inspection of your dryer interior and the entire exhaust vent from where it exits your dryer to where it exits your home, BEFORE replacing any defective parts. Failure to do so, may result in repeated failures of the same parts.

If the dryer belt is broken, the dryer may or may not run. Some models have a broken belt switch that will shut the dryer off when the belt breaks. This is determined by the MODEL NUMBER.

Another cause of a dryer that will not turn on, is a broken door switch. An easy method to test the switch is to open the door and press by hand. If the dryer drum light is working, you should be able to toggle the light on and off. If the switch is found to be defective, it must be replaced.

Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites are reputable and have competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites listed also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations that you can use to locate and properly identify any parts you may need.

These solutions are not all inclusive, but are the more common failure items. The more expensive options are a defective timer or drive motor. If you have any questions about any of these repairs, need troubleshooting advice or need instructions on how to access any of these components, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

If you can move the drum by hand freely then you have a broken belt or the belt popped off of the pulley.the belt part number is 661570 and it's around 20 to 25 dollars, also they sell a whirlpool belt, roller and pulley kit part number 4392065 and that's around 35 dollars.pop off the bottom panel with a putty knife or screw driver and pull on the belt to see if it broke or the pulley popped off and go from there

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. If you can provide me with a mmake and model number I can tell you exactly what parts to order and change including the source to correct the problem you describe.

These parts are in most cases are:
1. The drum bearing ring: (not always bad)
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/WHIRLPOOL-Bearing-ring-for-front-support-item-number-AP2996731.aspx

2. The front drum (Replace)seal: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=3131525

3. The rear drum seal: (replace) http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/WHIRLPOOL-Rear-drum-felt-seal-with-adhesive--red-thread--item-number-AP3094149.aspx

4. Roller kit and belt: (replace) http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/WHIRLPOOL-Dryer-repair-kit--29-inch-large-capacity-models--item-number-AP3131942.aspx

These are the most common failures. I would recommend ordering and replacing all parts 2 - 4. Doing this will ensure your dryer will last for a long time trouble free. (tumbling)

Heating works but drum doesnt turn.

Try turning drum, or remove top from dryer to confirm if belt has gone. When turning drum there should be some resistance as the belt fits around the drum

Whirlpool dryer WED5530SQ0, heats but does not run

So,. basically your drum doesnt turn. SO your getting heat still even though the drum isnt turning. Is this right? Sounds strange??? Do you hear any humming noise when you push the start button? I need to know a little more about the problem because im kinda confused as how you decribed the problem. Iv never seen a dryer heat but the drum not spinning. especially your model dryer. Its electric heat right? because if the drum doesnt spin, maybe your motor is bad. and if your motor is bad, then your heating element wont heat up because the centrifical switch in the motor is not switching to complete the circuit to the heating element. So this is why im confused when you said" Dryer heats when knob turned but when "push button" pressed, drum doesnt run." Because your belt wraps around the motor pully and the motor is what makes the drum turn. Like i said, i never seen this model dryer heat with out the motor operating. So if you can give me some more info, ill do my best to help you out....Thanks!!!!

Whirlpool Dryer wont spin

If it heats but doesnt spin, most likely the belt. May not be broke though. May have fallen off. Let me know if you need more help.
