My LED tv picture is too tall for the screen, the baseball scores are not visible and the tops of peoples heads are missing. Can you help me? The satellite co. says the problem is with my TV itself but I can't seem to find a button that fixes it!!! Carolyn

Most Samsungs have a button on the original remote that says "P.SIZE", usually toward the bottom. Pressing this button will toggle through several options. "Full" or "Just" settings should fix your problem.

My Vizio LCD HDTV 32in. doesn't seem to "center" the picture on sports programs so when they have a score box in the upper left corner most of it is cut off and can't be seen. Doesn't matter how I adjust...

This is a common complaint. To be frank I don't have the exact term for your Vizio, but most recent LCD and plasma TVs have the ability to "zoom" or adjust "picture format" (those are two commonly used terms) depending on the signal source and format.

it has to do with the fact that currently there are both classic style format 4:3 signal sources as well as new HD 16:9 signal sources and on top of that it may happen that a 4:3 signal source is distributing adjusted image from a 16:9 or other signal source. Think cinema adjusted to run on classic TV - remember the vertical strip of image with two huge black areas below and above it?

Well the ZOOM or PICTURE FORMAT allows to adjust such an image so that you cut the "void" are by scalling (enlarging) the visible area to fit the whole screen.

A problem then appears when the signal source is normal and showing full screen. Then, because of the enlargement, you start missing some of the picture. Before there was nothing there because it was showing adjusted wide (cinema) format to the TV box format, but when the new TV box format gets enlarged it sure starts missing around the edges.

That's what you're seeing.

More and more TVs do not have the ability to adjust that through the TV itself. Don't ask me why, but they can only do it through the remote.

So if you have an original remote there MUST be a button there that's called ZOOM or FORMAT.

It does the trick.

Hope this helps. If it does do not forget to rate it.

Cheers,

Expanded screen

If it only does it via the coax or cable fitting it may not be the set.

Does it do the same thing when playing a DVD etc?

If problem is on all inputs it is a deflection problem in the set which for whatever reason has over scanned the picture to tall---it suggests a problem in the Vertical deflection circuit of the set (top to bottom is vertical deflection).

Picture is too high on screen. The top of heads are shaved off. And, scores for baseball and football games cannot be read, because they are at the top of the screen.

You didn't give the model number so it isn't possible to see what display options you have. I suspect the display option is not correctly chosen.
One set we have has 6 different fixed settings and choosing the wrong one produces the clipped picture you describe.
Go through the setup menu and search for the section that lets you set aspect ratio and screen usage.

Horizonal and vertical off.

My picture is too big for my screen also, I have a 27 inch screen and I can't see the scrolling tickers on the bottom and the baseball score readout on the top. When I turn the tv on, the heads are huge on the top and that finally comes into proportion, but it goes too far. I can't find a horozontal or vertical control in the manual or on the tv menu. What can I do?

On your remote control you should see a zoom or picture size button. Try changing this back to 16:9. I expect that your screen got zoomed either on purpose or by accident by someone. Some people zoom in the picture to eliminate the aspect ratio areas at the top and bottom and/or sides.

This should be your problem, just un-zoom the picture

Picture too tall. How do you shorten?

Picture displaced vertically, picture too high or low
This problem was cured by entering the service mode (menu then 4,7,2,5), then pressing the green fastext button to access geometry settings, selecting VP1 (vertical position) and adjusting as necessary
Very low width and bowed verticals,no ew correction. R626 o/c
C630 (390nF, 300v) faulty, located next to scan socket. This fault can also be caused by R629 (2R7 fusable) o/c. In my set C630 was dry-jointed but not faulty. Check generally for dry joints in the E/W and PSU areas. Note that R629 is a safety component

Toshiba 50A50 missing sports score on top of image

Download the service manual and you'll find that there's a service mode that allows you to adjust convergence. Also, there's some adjustment knobs behind the right front speaker assembly
