How do I replace the surge tank on 2002 GMC Yukon. Need to check for a leak in tank. Could leak be in hose from surge tank to water puml? Can not see any water leaking except for water on right side in front of tire. Could surge tank cap be bad and force water out over flow hose?

Surge tank?
Are you talking about the coolant reservoir? There should not be any water in the system. Only engine coolant.

Anyway, it is easy to remove the coolant tank. They are typically secured by two or three 10mm screws, and one or two hose clamps.

It is a pretty easy procedure that you can do yourself. Recommend a youtube search if you need video.

SOURCE: changed radiator hoses and cap. changed coolant.

I had a leak on my top on hose on my jeep it was such a small hole I couldnt even recognize it. Almost mistaked it for the metal pipe corroding through. Now anytime your messing with the hoses it is best to just change the thermostat. They are cheap and easy. I would try that and go from there. Also how hot is it getting? 220 degrees is normal for jeeps. Should go a little past the middle line. Then the fans kick in and bring it back down. Also squeeze the hoses once it gets all the way hot and see that they have full pressure in them.
Thanks,
Lee

Just replaced by fuel pump, and now when I start my engine, my truck is leaking ALOT of gas, in the tank area.

Chances are that the hoses to and from the tank are brittle and the moving around formed a crack in a hose. Double check the connections to the tank.

Could it the water pump

Coolant leaks can be difficult to trace because the leak can migrate away from the source. To start with, dry off all areas that are wet. Then ,with a flash light, inspect the hose and water pump to see where the leak originates. This is done with the engine running so be mindful of all moving parts as you look through the engine compartment. It may be the hose that is leaking.

How to remove radiator cover to add antifreeze to radiator

Your vehicle is equipped with a surge tank. There is no opening in the radiator itself. To check or add coolant (antifreeze) to your cooling system, screw the cap off of the surge tank.

CAUTION: Do this only when the engine is cool.

This is covered on page 5-26 of the 2004 GMC Yukon Owners Manual.

Antifreeze leak

I assume the vehicle has a heater in the rear. If so, the problem is probably either the heater core leaking, a hose leaking, or a hose connection leaking. If you want to further investigate and possibly fix yourself, let me know.
