Question about Sony PFM-42B2 42 in. Plasma HDTV

I have a Sony Model# PFM-42B2, that go's into saftey shutdown mode and give's error code "blinking standby led" of 6, all fans start up and voltages for the power supply board, Vs, 82.5v @ cn23 pins 8,9,10 and cn33 pins 7,8,9. Va, 60v cn42 pin 1, cn52 pin 1. Vcc 5.1 @ cn6 pin6. Vpr2 3.3v in standby at pin1. I have also checked the power supply control signals to logic cn7, VCEGO-8, PFCGO - 10, VSAGO - 6, and they show 3.1v, I have the service manual and I have training in electronics, I needed to know what signals to check and where to check them from?

    Thanks for the suggestion but why would a Plasma screen need an LCD Inverter Board, if there is a test sequence or solution tree for the 6 blinking standby light problem please let me know.

    3-2. Self Diagnosis Function

    3-2-1. Outline

    The PFM-42B2/B2E has the self diagnosis function using

    A/D converter to detect the power supply analog voltages,

    8 channels of temperature sensor, fan operations, power

    unit temperature, DC voltage status, and to check the

    EEPROM and the watch register. When any abnormality

    occurs or defect is detected, the standby indicator on the

    control panel flashes and the detected data is displayed on

    the service menu [STATUS/TEST] block. If the abnormal

    status exceeds the allowable limit, the PFM-42B2/B2E is

    forced to shut down.

    The detection items are shown as follows.

    1. Increase of temperature at the I/O block on top of the

    panel is detected. Shut down of machine.

    2. Increase of temperature at the center in the top of the

    panel is detected. Shut down of machine.

    3. Increase of temperature at the XSUS on top of the

    panel is detected. Shut down of machine.

    4. Temperature at the left side of the panel is detected.

    5. Detection of fan stop and that of drive circuit failure.

    * Two fans at the bottom of the panel and the two fans

    for power supply circuit. One fan in the I/O block.

    6. Detection of temperature rise in the power supply

    block.

    7. Shut down when the 5 V for internal digital circuit has

    abnormality.

    8. Detection of failure of the EEPROM.

    9. Detection of abnormality in communication with scan

    converter.

    10. Detection of failure in the ON/OFF control of power

    supply.

    11. Detection of decreased backup power supply voltage

    for watch and detection of abnormality in oscillator.

    12. Detection of PDP failure using the combination of the

    voltage detection and shut down of the machine.

    3-2-2. Criteria for Judgment of Abnormality

    1. Increase of temperature at the top of the I/O block in

    the top of the panel is detected and shut down of the

    machine.

    (Name of this function on the service menu :

    TEMPERATURE - I/O BLOCK TOP)

    The normal operating range is up to 79 °C.

    Warning of high temperature when 80 °C or higher.

    Shut down at the temperature of 85 °C or higher .

    2. Increase of temperature at the center in the top of the

    panel is detected and shut down of the machine.

    (Name of this function on the service menu :

    TEMPERATURE - CENTER)

    The normal operating range is up to 74 °C.

    Warning of high temperature when 75 °C or higher.

    Shut down at the temperature of 80 °C or higher .

    3. Increase of temperature at the rear of the PDP and DCDC

    converter block is detected.

    (Name of this function on the service menu :

    TEMPERATURE - DD CON TOP)

    The normal operating range is up to 84 °C.

    Warning of high temperature when 85 °C or higher .

    Shut down at the temperature of 90 °C or higher.

    4. Detection of at the left side of panel temperature

    (Name of this function on the service menu :

    TEMPERATURE - PANEL SIDE)

    Occurrence of abnormality and fault is judged solely

    from the internal temperature of the PFM-42B2/B2E.

    Measurement of the ambient temperature aims mainly

    at the confirmation of the operating environment.

    Therefore, there is no chance to indicate this warning

    message.

    Warning of high temperature at 85
    °C or higher.

    3-2. Self Diagnosis Function

    3-2-1. Outline

    The PFM-42B2/B2E has the self diagnosis function using

Since you already have the service manual, did you check whats the self-test diagnosis for this set? I do not have one for this model so if you can upload it to a file sharing site, I can dowload it and break it down for you.

    The description you have provided indicates that the temp status can be checked via the service menu. Can you please upload the service manual to some file sharing site and get me the link so that I can have a look and all you need to test?

    Ok. The description you have provided suggests that you can check out the temperature status from the service menu of the tv. See the criteria for judgement of abnormality section. It lists how to get the temperature reading of a particular component. All you need to check out now is how to access the service menu. Or you can upload the service manual and I can get you the detailed step by step instructions

Hi


Standby light flashing is an indication that TV needs service. It prevents the TV from further damage. This is usually due to a power supply failure, or one of the boards has a short on it.

If you can check LCD Inverter Board. Most likely Inverter board is defective. It needs to be replaced.

Is it a problem of the inverter board ?


These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Hello,<br /><br />Below are some blinking code interpretations for your Sony Brava TV;<br /><br />ONE Blink--- not used for the self-diagnosis<br /><br />TWO Blinks---B+ over current protection (OCP) , unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.<br /><br />THREE Blinks---B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.<br /><br />FOUR Blinks---No Vert. Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted. Check IC1509, Q1505<br /><br />FIVE Blinks---AKB circuit (AKB), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. Also unit be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.<br /><br />SIX Blinks---No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.<br /><br />SEVEN Blinks---High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.<br /><br />EIGHT Blinks---Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401 and 402.<br /><br />NINE blinks - Replace D 6116 and D 6301 on the "G" board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing, then change the switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negative).<br /><br />TEN blinks - Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If the transistors are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board.<br /><br />Intermittent problems ?? This is a great feature. You can also bring up these fault codes ON-SCREEN to see a list of the problem numbers with the abbreviation of the problem and the number of times this problem has occurred. This is slightly different than entering the service mode. To see the diagnostic screen, Press the following buttons:<br /><br />Display, Channel, 5, Vol Minus, ( Not plus ) then Power. This brings up a screen with a list of the problems and number of times they have occurred. Each of the problem names is abbreviated as, "OCP", "OVP", "V STOP", ETC. We have repeated them in parentheses in the text for the "Blinks" described above so you can correlate between the diagnostic screen and the blink codes.<br /><br />So, now that you know about these self-diagnostics, how do you use them? Say that you have a set with a black screen. You see that the LED is blinking 4 times....This would tell you that you have no vertical and that is why the video is muted. Ok i have here the problems that occur when the red standby led flashes on these sets which is an error code.

3 FLASHES ( PAUSE ) 3 FLASHES = Y SUS TEMP (I/O BLOCK)

4 FLASHES ( PAUSE ) 4 FLASHES = CENTRE TEMP

5 FLASHES ( PAUSE ) 5 FLASHES = DIGITAL 5VOLT

i have the exact same error with same projector. did you manage to solve this?

my status led blinked red 6 times indicating a "lamp error" which wasn't helpful. i also tried removing and replacing lamp but didn't work.
