Assuming you are trying to access the internal configuration of the router:
With a computer plugged into the router
find the IP address of your computer
click start "run" type "CMD" hit enter
this should open the command prompt.
type "ipconfig"
look for a number like 192.168.0.5 yours will be different but the first two numbers should be the same
type the number into a web browser replacing the last number with a 1
eg: 192.168.0.1
this should give you access to the router and allow you to make changes to the configuration.

Lost security code, want to connect laptop to router.

if you're referring to wifi code then try connecting wired

got to command line (start-->run type CMD click ok)
type ipconfig
Note gateway address

In your browser enter the above gateway address in the address bar.
this should take you to the login screen for the router

you may be prompted for a login password. If you don't know this then try the default password for the router which you can find out from the manual or a google search.

If this doesn't work you can try a factory rest on the router but note if you do this you will need to have all the broadband details including username/password to reset up your broadband

if you need further info the post make/model of router

good luck

I can not seem to remember my password for my WiFi. I have an Ipod touch that I would like to connect to, and it keeps asking me for the password. EVERYTHING I try comes up unable to connect. What am I...

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the Ipos, laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the Ipod, laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

How do i find my wpa2 key for this router? i have tried typing in th ip adress on my adress bar and it wont let me access the page.

What IP address were you entering in your web browser? Were you prompted for a username and password, or was the browser simply timing out when attempting to make a connection? I believe the default IP address for the router is 192.168.0.1 so make sure you're entering http://192.168.0.1 in your browser. If you're then prompted for a username and password then enter 'admin' for the username and try and leave the blank field blank then click 'OK' and see if you're able to login, unless you've changed this information.

I need to reset or find my origional password. Please help. Thanks

If you have changed the default password, you need to reset the router to the factory settings to get in with the default user and password (user admin and password as password, or if that doesn't work try 1234 - these are the default password for NetGear routers). Note that you will lose the ISP settings and wireless settings when you reset the router.

Here's a video on how to reset the router to the factory default settings: http://kbserver.netgear.com/media/flash/training/Troubleshooting/NG_WGR614V9Router_TS_LostPassword.html

My daugher recently hooked up her router to my computer but she somehow has lost the disk and manual and does not know how to password protect my network. Any help would be appreciated Thanks Linda

hey,

Login to the routers home page (details under neath or behind the router). Once you login, go to wireless--> settings or wireless security page and then choose WPA2 or WPA PSK and enter the password and save the changes. After save, you will need to re-establish the connection to your laptop and you will be prompted for a password on the computer.

Cheers!!!

My wireless connection is unsecured I'm using a Netgear router, what do I do to secure my line?

1. Goto your web browser
2. Type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (depending on which Netgear router, just try both).
3. Type "admin" for username and "admin" for password.
4. Click on "Wireless settings" on the left frame of the router setup page.
5. Security options are on the main frame of the page now (under security options). Click on WEP and enter a WEP ID (make it unique).
6. Click on "Apply" and repair your wireless connection. It should prompt you for a WEP key.

Hope this helps,
Bill

Secure network

Normal 0 You should use the strongest form of encryption that all of your wireless devices can support. If they can all do WPA2, then use WPA2. Otherwise you can use WPA.
With WPA or WPA2 you should also use a strong key (sometimes called password or passphrase).

To set up wireless security, you must use a computer that is wired to the router.

Where to find the router settings: The other settings are all found in the "Wireless" or the "Security" section of the router's setup pages, located at 192.168.1.1

First, give your router a unique SSID. Don't use "linksys".
Make sure "SSID Broadcast" is set to "enabled".

Next, leave the router at its default settings (except for the unique SSID), and then use your pc to connect wirelessly to the router. Test your wireless Internet connection and make sure it is working correctly. You must have a properly working wireless connection before setting up wireless security.

To implement wireless security, you need to do one step at a time, then verify that you can still connect your wireless computer to the router.

Next, encrypt your wireless system using the highest level of encryption that all of your wireless devices will support. Common encryption methods are:

WEP - poor (see note below)
WPA (sometimes called PSK, or WPA with TKIP) - good
WPA2 (sometimes called PSK2, or WPA with AES) - best

WPA and WPA2 sometimes come in versions of "personal" and "enterprise". Most home users should use "personal". Also, if you have a choice between AES and TKIP, and your wireless equipment is capable of both, choose AES. With any encryption method, you will need to supply a key (sometimes called a "password").

The wireless devices (computers, printers, etc.) that you have will need to be set up with the SSID, encryption method, and key that matches what you entered in the router.

Retest your system and verify that your wireless Internet connection is still working correctly.

And don't forget to give your router a new login and password.

**Picking Passwords (keys): You should never use a dictionary word as a password. If you use a dictionary word as a password, even WPA2 can be cracked in a few minutes. When you pick your login password and encryption key (or password or passphrase) you should use a random combination of capital letters, small letters, and numbers, but no spaces. A login password should be 12 characters or more. WPA and WPA2 passwords should be at least 24 characters. Note: Your key, password, must not have any spaces in it.

Most home users should have their routers set so that "remote management" of the router is disabled. If you must have this option enabled, then your login password must be increased to a minimum of 24 random characters.

One additional issue is that Windows XP requires a patch to run WPA2. Go to Microsoft Knowledgebase, article ID=917021 and it will direct you to the patch.
Sadly, the patch is not part of the automatic Windows XP updates, so lots of people are missing the patch.

Note:
WEP is no longer recommended. The FBI has demonstrated that WEP can be cracked in just a few minutes using software tools that are readily available over the Internet.
