Question about Vacuums

Open Question

Hi, my Gelateria by Gaggia has stopped working all of a sudden, it's less than a year old and has been used around 20 times! The paddles don't turn. Any ideas what the problem could be? ...I hope there is a quick fix as I have 5 ice-creams waiting to be churned :-(

SOURCE: Floormate stopped sucking up water as well as it used to

Don't know how much dirt has accumulated in the recovery system, but mine was amazing for no more than we use it. The front of the head detaches and you can clearly see where the solution is being vacuumed into. A thin rectangular channel then carries the fluid to a corrugated hose in the back of the head. This channel accumulates a lot of junk too. By removing the recovery tank, you can see where the corrugated tube transfers fluid into another narrow channel which carries it vertically to the top of the recovery tank. The small section of hose seems to be the only thing that stays clean and doesn't limit flow and vacuum. The filter at the top of the tank, which keeps fluid out of the vacuum motor can also get plugged with dirt. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: stopped working while vacuuming...less than 2

Hi, It's probably the cord. I do wish Mieles were more durable given what they cost. I clean a home 3x per week with a Miele and tend to go further than i should before i unplug and find a closer outlet to plug into. So, it's the tugging on the cord that killed it. I had to take it to a Miele certified repair shop and they replaced the cord itself, which of course had a new plug on it. It was around 60 bucks. The owner didn't speak great English and I don't know Spanish so i'm unsure where the prob was: the spot where the cord attached to the vac, or the plug. In any case, I don't tug on the vac anymore....owner's were unhappy. Lesson learned.

Sounds like you got stuck with NOS item. New Old Stock. Happens a lot and if you can find that receipt be sure and try to get a refund or another one.

Many items have a date code stamped on them or a manufacturing date on the box, try to buy new or don't give full price.

As for another brand, I like Bissell but don't know if they make something like this.

  • Hi there,
  • Well I do have a suggestion though you may not like it use it as a boat anchor.....no no I am just kidding. I have sold vacuums for 20 years and Kirby has been around for years before I started.Though they have gotten better in the last 20 years they are still using the same system and it is one that most machines use. It is called direct air flow and this is just simply that the air takes the dirt in to the machine and drops it off in the bag. The more you put in the bag the less power you get so the more you \vacuum the less efficient it becomes.
  • There is a solution though it is called cyclonic action and it has been around for over 75 years. It is used in several machines today although it was invented many moons ago. There is a vacuum called Tri-Star that has been using it for years and it works great. The other machine that uses it is called Filter Queen and it has also been around for over 75 years.for years they were the only ones using it because they had it patented. Now their Paten has expired and other companies have started to incorporate it. I do not recommend a Dyson but you may have seen them on t.v. and they advertise cyclonic action like the guy invented it. Well he didn't and if you browse around through eh vacuum questions you will soon notice that there are many Dyson owners that are less than happy.
  • Now a Tri-Star would be great but thgey are 2500.00 brand new so you may not want to or be able to put that kind of cash out on a vacuum . Well I understand that ,So what I would suggest is going to a used vacuum store and looking for a refurbished Tri Star and picking one of them up for anywhere from 399.00 for an older one to 999.00 for one that is not new but may be between 5 and 10 years oild. They are made of metal yet it is called magnalite and it is very light to say the least. They are small and very powerful and best of all they DO NOT...I REPEAT DO NOT lose power as they fill.
  • If you go and ask to see one at your local vacuum store they will demonstrate how thus works and if you are in the USA the prices gave maybe way off as I am in Canada and I only have the prices for here.(EH!)...lol
  • Please take my advise and go to your local vacuum store and at least have a look at them they are all that I have said and more.
  • Now just because I sold them please do not think I am giving you a pitch because I sold many machines over the years and Electrolux and Kirby were included, so I won't bore you anymore with this but that is the most honest advice I can give from my experience in the last 19.5 years in the Business.....Thank you and please rate my answer if you liked it! thanks for choosing Fixya.com
  • P.S. Tri-Star is Manufactured in Anaheim California by a company called "Interstate Engineering"

I have had my Dirt Devil for just less than a year. I bought it in September, '07. Last week I was using it and it suddenly stopped running. I can see no reason why. I need to find a nearby repair station. I cannot afford to buy another one. I bought it at Kmart; it was on sale for $49.97.
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. I can see your problem but if it is anything more than a new belt or brushroll, it would be cheaper to buy as new one because the price of the part plus the labor fee will be more than the price of a new vacuum or you can buy a good used one from your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. If it is the motor then definitely buy a new vacuum. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Hi There
I have got a Kirby 2 HG vacuum cleaner which is around 20 years old now. It was going really well until last week when one of the capacitors which are connected to the brushes blew up. There is two capacitors one for each brush. One of them completely blew to bits and the other one is still intact. My question is are they the same size and where do I get a new one from.
I know it is an old machine, but I would like to fix it and get it going again. Any tips???

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Yes, I think you are referring to the carbon brushes for the Kirby II HG and it is a good idea to change both of them @ the same time to be able to wear the same. Having 2 different sizes could affect the motor performance and the carbon brushes / capacitors and it would wear uneven. If you are referring to the brushroll, replace it with a genuine Kirby brushroll and to do a belt change every 4 to 6 months. Please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area & in the yellow pages, if not call the factory or the website listed below:
