Question about Amana Refrigerators

1 Answer

The frig was working great, we were giving it to the church. We unplugged it. removed the doors and took it to the chuch in an upright position. It would not work when we plugged it in, checked the outlet for power. The light in the frig comes on but nothing else. We are at a loss as to what has or could have happen. Can you help. I can not find the paper work on it and it was purchased in 1997. Thanks

Why is my freezer working but not my frig in frigidaire upright with seperate doors

Check the rear is clean and clear. The condenser should be warm, not hot. If it cools down towards the end of the rungs and the last bit is cold. suspect short of gas.
Further check any fans etc and remove any excess ice, and make sure the door seals ok.

My back windows won't go back up... Is it a fuse?

this might be hard to explain,
since you have the door panels off,you a test light at the window rocker switch, one wire will be hot all the time, probe one of the other wires with the test light and try the switch up and down, one wire will have power when you try the up position and the other will have it only in the down position, if this check shows no power to one side of the switch, your problem is the switch. if you get power to both wires up and down your problem is the motor.

Line and air flow box between freezer and frig freezing up, we took apart, defrosted . air comes into frig, but still not cool enough. freezer works great This is a side by side model # ED25PWXAN01

If the fan is running in the freezer compartment, temperatiure is normal, and no frost is building up on the back panel in the freezer panel, then there is a good chance the return air shutes in the fresh food compartment are blocked with ice. The return ducting is just as important as the the supply shute which you melted out. Difficult if not impossible to see.
My recomendation is to empty, unplug and air dry the whole machine preferably with a fan blowing air into the fresh food compartment.
Haste makes waste with this machine. Using heat can cause the plastic shutes to melt and distort.
Should be defrosted in this manner for 24 hours.
Restart and give the machine 24 hours to recover. Common problem with Whirlpool products.
P.S. Check to see if lights go out when closing fridge door. In fact this should be your first step. Jack

Upright frig/freezer not getting cold, compressor running

1.My first suggestion, is to clean out the compressor area located at the bottom of the refrigerator. Refrigerator unplugged from power. Remove the cardboard panel from the bottom, (Watch the water line), and use a vacuum. I also bring the refrigerator towards an open door, and use compressed air to blow it out, afterward. You'd be surprised how much gunk builds up here, and how cleaning it out will help your fridge tremendously! (Good tip for air conditioners also. Power unplugged, case cover removed. Use a garden hose to flush the fins out. Let it dry, reinstall the cover) 2.Your refrigerator may be low on Freon. This requires a professional to purge the system, and reinstall Freon and lubricant. Freeze will not freeze.

I had a similar problem. The frost in the back is an indication that your coils are frozen. This could be from food packages falling out of the freezer drawers in the back and blocking the air circulation vents or maybe the freezer door was not closed completely and letting moist/humid air in and freezing the coils.
For me it was the first problem listed.I had to completely empty the freezer and Frig. and take the back panel off in the freezer. There you will see the coils and lots of ice!
1. Remove all items from the frig. and freezer and unplug frig.
2. Pull all the freezer drawers out.
3. On my GE side by side I took the light cover off and removed the bulb. There you will see two panel screws. Remove the screws.
4. Now pull out the mouldings on each side and you should be able to remove the panel.
5. Take a hair drier and completely defrost all the ice from the coils.
Be sure to keep plenty of towels handy for all the water mess. Remember to keep an eye on the drain tray in the back of the frig. and use a sponge to collect the water that will build up.
Hope this helps!.....
