This is a single phase induction motor. You mentioned it is overheating. You did not mention whether or not you had easily turned the pump by hand. Pumps overheat for several reasons but these are the top 4:
1. The head pressure is too high as in the pump is being used to pump water higher than the head level of the pump. (Lift distance to high)
2. Low utility or generator voltage. Lower than the pump rated input power requirements.
3. Bearing Friction or motor / bearing mis-alignment ( 3. Pump is sitting in debris while pumping and the pump inlet is being blocked by debris. Also... if it sat in clay and the clay dried inside the pump it can restrict water passages to the point that the pump just can not pump enough water to stay cool.

Does it overheat when pumping at 15 feet or less? I note that this is actually a 1/2 Hp pump. The max LIFT distance for most 1/2 Hp Pumps is 23 feet or less using a 1 1/2 in discharge. The lift will be even less with a 2 inch discharge outlet. As for oiling the pump... Most submersibles always have oil above the impeller and it usually does NOT leak out unless the seal between the impeller and the motor stator / aramture has failed letting water into the winding. That plug you mentioned is for checking to see if water is in the winding area. If you pull the plug and get water the seal is bad. Hopefully you can save the winding.

You asked what the effect would be if you went to a larger discharge diameter. This will give you more volume but less head / lift distance.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

    Great answer!!!

Arthur how long have you been using this pump? if its less then a month the piping might be an issue, more then that mean its not the issue,

Maybe its just block with debris, tell us more and we will help you more,

Dont put oil, there is no need for it everywhere else then,
There is an hex nut on the side of it and this is the oil chamber that need aprox 170 ml of oil (anykind) wich is use to lubricate the mecanical seal,to help her pumping forever,it is also use to check the condition of the oil,
If there is water with the oil you need to do maintenace on it, i suggest you to check this only once a year tho or when the impeller(wheel) will need to be replace due to work,

    Have a great day,

I have a submersible deep well pump and lately if I run the water for 15 minutes straight it shuts off why.

Grundfos pumps are thermally protected by a bi-metal strip temperature switch. Your pump is overheating. Typical cause of this is operating to near the shutoff head pressure. Try reducing the discharge pressure by increasing the flow rate.

My Tsurumi 50pn2.4s has a bad bearing. Where can i buy bearings and seals?

Probably any bearing store will have the right one,but you will need a mechanical seal from a Tsurumi pump Distributor,

Is the internal motor in a tsurumi 50pu2-15s

No it should be completely dry and clean, check the date of purchase, you will need to replace the mechanical seal and clean the motor, its not suppose to happen,

ask your tsurumi distributor if you want to repair it or ask about the warranty, i am assuming that the pump stop working so thats why you open it and ask about it here, make sure you dont see any burn (black) wire on the stator, if you see any burn on the stator its a bad news,

If there is no burn part,
If you have just a few dip of oil in the motor try to remove the oil as much as you can with (electric part (brake) cleaner) or rag and replace the mechanical seal,

If there is a lot of oil all over in the motor, if he is not already damage (Burn),you can try to wash the motor with clean or light soapy water and then let him dry for a few days or in a oven to make sure all the water is evaporate, then replace the seal and cross your finger,we can never be sure that this procedure will work due to this small electric motor, and you never know how long the motor might have run with liquid in it, but i say its 51% succesfull chance to work, if you have to pay someone to do that it might be worthed to buy a new unit.

Hope i help you,

Is the pump was working fine for a long time before that happen?
if yes
There is a motor problem,
You can check your pump power cable try to find any damage or hole in it.
If the cable fine
And if the impeller and wheel still turn before triping the breaker It would be a good thing to check the amperage with a special electronic tool to see how much amperage the pump take,
or
if you are good in manipulating tool we can send you the breakdown or i can support you to open it and to check the motor trying to find any burn part in it. That way we will know right away if its worth to fix it.

let me know

Pump makes loud humming sound, does not pump, eventually overheats and trips breaker. Tsurumi Vancs 50pn2.4s-61

Pull out the oil inspection plug and check oil. It is filled with mineral oil and should appear clear. If milky it would indicate faulty seals. The tsurumis are overheating often in skimmer box applications where the top of the pump is not submersed when the skimmer intake screen gets plugged. Tsurumi no longer accepts pumps for repair at their US facility. If you contact them they may refer you to a recommended rebuilder. It is a shame as we have sold hundreds of these the last 4 years and have suddenly had a rash of this similiar complaint in the last few months with little success in repairing. We have since dropped this line and replaced with Atlantic water Garden Pumps in similiar sizes.
