Question about Juki TL-98Q

1 Answer

During free-motion, the thread tension plates clamp down and thread doesn't move - needle bends and breaks. Thread tension post started rotating the last time. Local repairman tightened it. After an hour or so of sewing the plates began to clamp down and again - tension post still looks straight. I can keep going for awhile if I undo and re-assemble the tension thing but it doesn't last. This doesn't happen just after I thread the machine. It sews fine for awhile and then clamps down. I haven't been able to do straight sewing after this happens.

On page 6 of the service manual,item#6 (convex of Presser Spring Regulator Knob) and /or item#5(**** of Pressure Regulating Screw) may need to be replaced. It looks like they're slipping and then jamming.

I have a Pfaff 4.2 Quilt Expression. I am free motion quilting and the bobbin thread keeps hanging up. Any suggestions?

1. The top loading bobbin cases have small brackets to keep them from turning or moving up or down.
2. Adjust brackets with small screwdriver. Allow enough room for thread to flow through.
3. Rotate hand wheel both directions to make sure the bobbin case doesn't move around. Also, watch the thread to see if it is flowing across the top of the bobbin case.
4. You may need to slow down movement of your "free motion". Also, make sure you are using the right pressure foot.

Needles break when embroidery carraige moves to sew new area

Check your needle for burrs or bends. If your needle is bent it will hit the plate. Try changing the needle

Pfaff quilt expression 4 0

The top thread breaks

1. the needle thread is not threaded properly

2. The needle thread tension is to tight

3. The needle is bent or blunt

4. The needle is incorrectly inserted

5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew

6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing

7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle

8. Try a different spool or cone of thread

My Pfaff 4.0 breaks needles and shreds thread when free motion quilting

a sewing machine I work on last week, I put a new needle in the needle clamp & thought I had it correctly inserted,, but it wouldn't work,, so I went back & checked the needle again & found I had to unscrew the needle clamp screw even more than normal to insert the needle then it work perfectly.

some needles & thread don't work togeather--here's a tip
Cut 6-8 inch piece of thread of the spool you are going to use for your project
Take the needle you are going to use for the project
& insert the thread thru the eye of the needle
& lift one end of the thread to a 45 degree angle
& if the needle is the right size for the thread it will slide down the thread
But if the needle hangs on the thread you need one size larger needle for the thread

also clean under the needle plate where the feed dogs are for lint
& also in the bobbin area for lint & loose threads

I am sewing a quilt and my needle is in the right place but it keeps breaking. Please help. Also, the thread break often.

here are something you might check
upper thread breaks
1.top tension to tight
2.thread to thick or to fine for needle
3.needle not inserted correctly
4.thread caught on something-spool pin, tension area
5.needle damaged
6.needle thread is not threaded properly

Needle breaks
wrong size needle for fabric
wrong foot is attached
needle clamp screw is loose

also check for lint & pieces of broke needle under the needle plate
also the bobbin case area -take the bobbin & case out & check for pieces of broke needle

here is a tip about needle & thread
Cut 6-8 inch piece of thread of the spool you are going to use for your project
Take the needle you are going to use for the project
& insert the thread thru the eye of the needle
& lift one end of the thread to a 45 degree angle
& if the needle is the right size for the thread it will slide down the thread
But if the needle hangs on the thread you need one size larger needle for the thread

Thread keeps breaking and thread sometimes

I am guessing here because I don't know what kind of thread you are using but, I am guessing that you have something in the upper tension discs causing the thread to not have tension, first I would recommend if you can see in to the disc put the foot in the up position and and blow out the disc. If this doesn't work take it to you local dealer and have the tensions adjusted, also look at the needle plate and see if there are marks in the hole, if there are it would be wise to either clean them out or get a new needle plate they will severely affect free motion

Skipping stitches and sometime the thread breaks.

Sounds like a tension problem maybe. Too tight tension will bend, and break the needle, especially if sewing fast in free machine embroidery, in this mode, the tensions have to be looser anyway. I can't explain why the wheel flagged and stopped, but experiment with tensions first.

Free motion quilting skipped stitches, breaking threads

Might be that you need to lower the tensions quite a bit, you'll have to juggle with top and bottom tensions though, and experiment for just this operation with the Sensormatic.
