If you are near a sewing repair shop bring your old wheel in, they should be able to match it up for you. If they can not you can mail it to me at chris dewitt, 1891 Cardinal Drive, Shakopee, MN 55379 and I'll match it up for you and ship one out to you, there are few different styles. Usually they are under $2.00

Best of luck and please rate my solution.

Your closest local sewing machine store will carry or will be able to source a bobbin winder ring.
Regarding the Helvetia sewing machines, a link states:
"This delightful machine bears the name of th country it was made
in, namely Switzerland. The Swiss Sewing Machien Works in Lucerne started operating in 1895."

My mums lemair Helvetia, when on zigzag only, mucks up every 4th stitch. It forms a thread loop on the underside. And what needle is the correct needle for this machine?

it's possible that the gear or cam that make the zig zag stitch is
worn or broken or loose, there's no way to know for sure with out
having a sewing machine shop look at the machine.
you mentioned the needle, when sewing on cotton you need one
kind of needle and for knits you need a different needle, so
according to what kind of fabric that tell what kind of needle has to
be used for the stitches to come out right.
also check the top tenison--on a scrap fabric,,try to tighten the top
tension and see if the helps stop the thread loops on the underside.

The bobbin on my kenmore sewing machine model 158.15720 won't spin to wind the bobbin. I oiled it but it didn't help. The belt is a little loose. Could replacing it help?

most machines will have a rubber o ring as part of the bobbin winding mechanism, when you engage the bobbin winder, this o-ring will move over against the main engine drive wheel and this then makes the bobbin spindle turn. So yes, you may need to replace the rubber o-ring, they can perish and wear. Called Bobbin Winder Tyre, you could try, they have loads of Kenmore models listed but can't see yours. However, if you email them, they should be able to advise what part number it is. If you start by opening up the machine case and take a look at the bobbin winder area first, you may find this rubber has split or perished.

Firstly check that you have the correct bobbin for your machine, there are many bobbins that will fit in the bobbin case and sew ok, but the hole in the centre is what matters. If you do not have an original try putting the bobbin on the winder spindle with a small piece of paper inside the centre of the bobbin so it is tight on the shaft.
If that does not work it usually means the winder rubber on the bottom of the cover is worn or stuck, this part often looks like a large O Ring.

Problem with winding thread onto the bobbin (small free- arm Singer 100 sewing machine). Once bobbin winder shaft is pushed to the right nothing happens-bobbin rod does not start turning so I cannot wind...

first you must make sure the winder shaft is turning by moving it to the right a little and see if you can turn it by hand.
If it is turning ok then there is a rubber ring on the other end of the winder shaft and it should come in contact with the drive which turnes it ,if it is worn it might need a new rubber.
