Hi Jess.

You cannot have the camera fixed in one week. Lens error means jammed and defective lens. Lens jam occurs because one of the zoom rings is not well in place or defective, or because of other similar problems like defective lens motor. The camera should be repaired. All the workaround methods of tapping and pushing must not be used because they can invalidate the warranty if mentioned to Sony support (apart that they rarely work).

Your warranty is international, and the camera will be collected in Italy for repair. You need to bring with you the warranty paper that was provided with manual and documentation. Only you cannot expect it done in one week. Sony repair times is unlikely less than two/three weeks. Usually more.

Call Sony ASAP or go to the nearest Sony shop. Apart your homework, the lens error problem is not always covered by warranty. This problem can be easily created by the user. Sending the camera to repair shortly after purchase (months are short in this ambit) shows that in your case the problem was due to a factory defect.

I am sorry that there is nothing more I can do about your problem.

Regards.

Ginko.

This link can find details about everything you can try to fix it without sending it to a repair shop: Fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera

Keep in mind that if your camera is recently new, could be underwarranty.

Hope helps (remember to rate and comment this answer).

If you bought the camera new and it's less then a week old your best two options are to exchange it with a new one from the store you bought it from or have it repaired under warranty by canon. Here is canon's repair page if you choose the second option:

Thank you,

Your only other option is to find a repair facility near you as this is not a user serviceable problem. The camera can still be repaired under warranty no matter where you are it would just definitely take longer then by the weekend.
    Thanks,

Camera wont turn on: lens error, restart camera

Hi there,

Your problem is common to that model and actually to most of camera models. Usually it has foreign materials interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. It's also possible that the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension which eventually damaged gears or other parts. You should also check if your battery has enough power to supply the lens mechanism, easy way to find out is to use a new charged or brand new battery.

If you are still under warranty, I suggest to bring you camera to the store or service center. If not then here are some things that you can do to try to correct it. I hope it will work for you.

Lens error= restart camera - this is the message I am receiveing from my cannon SX110 IS

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:
