Setting My Original Defaults on my laptop.

Over the year I've gotten some bootlegged programs that support ads (free software - supposedly) anyways, I've already saved and copied my files to an external hard drive. Now I just want my laptop to be like when I first got it. Do you know a command that I may apply to do so?

Thanks.

Arius, thanks for the advise, but sorry to have not mentioned that I have NO cd. Didn't think to save it since it was in my laptop. I know, I know...LOL. See for my home pc (a dell) I was instructed to hit a couple of keys in the booting process - I think they were/are Cntrl & F11, I wanna say, but I was hoping for some type of command as such. Hope you can help. Thanks.

There are many ways to do this, but the fastest and easiest thing to do is to use your recovery disk provided by your pc manufacturer, as if you are going to uninstall all progs, and install all default prog from manufacturers preferences again, in this way all drivers and basic software will be there as well,

mind you that you still need to install any peripheral software you install before like printer, or electronic gadgets you want to use.

simply insert your cd and follow the step by step procedure, make sure you select 1 to recover entire hard disk

hope this helps

Try registering the DLL. Use regsvr32 xxxxx.dll in run or cmd. Of course regsvr32.exe has to be in your system. It's been a while since I've used the command so I don't have more info.

I've been at this all day and still have'nt gotten my laptop to reset to a factory default setting. Can you please guide me through this process, step by step. Thankyou.

You can always restore the computer to a point when it was working fine.
For a laptop when you say factory defaults we've two things
1)Factory defaults on the Bios - as soon as u turn on the laptop we press F8 key or DEL(depends on the brand of the laptop) to get to the BIOS and you've an option to revert to the factory defaults.
It is advisable not touch the BIOS if you are not sure about this firmware
2)The operating system (lik windows xp,vista & 7) there is nothing called factory defaults for this all we've is a installation of the Operating system itself. However we can revert or restore back to last know good configuration mode.

How to start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature To start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature, follow these steps:
  1. Start your computer.
  2. When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press the F8 key.
  3. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
  4. If you are running other operating systems on your computer, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP, and then press ENTER

How do i restore factory defaults

To restore the computer to the Original Factory settings perform the following steps:
Turn off the Computer
connect it to the Power outlet with Adapter
Turn on the laptop
The moment you see the Dell Logo, Press the Ctrl Key and start tapping the F11 key. You will get a screen which will give you options to restore the computer. Select the option which says Restore to Original Factory Settings. It will run the restore and your computer will be restored to Factory setting within 15 - 20 minutes.

Note: you will lose all the programs and applications that you have installed and also the files and documents stored in your computer (including the email in Outlook). You computer will be as it was when you first Purchased it.

P.S: You can restore the system to Factory settings only if you have not formatted or replaced the Original Hard Drive.

Hope you find this information helpful.

To restore to original program or setting

Hi there.
To restore the operating system and the preinstalled software back to factory defaults do this >>>>>
Put the restore DVD in the drive and turn off the machine, wait 10 - 15 seconds and and turn the computer on.
When the "In Touch with Tomorrow TOSHIBA" logo appears, press the F12 key.
Use the cursor key to select the CD/DVD icon in the menu and hit the enter key, then just follow the on screen instructions.

Not display all icone

If you try safe mode, the restart and still have the problem, insert the original Operating System Disk, and start the process to reinstall the operating system. However, when you get to a window that offers you to press "R" to repair the OS (after it finds windows), press R and do the install. You won't lose anything, but you'll need to update your system again.

Chances are, you've gotten a virus or a Malware on your system that has caused this problem.

Download the free version of Malwarebytes (not a fake, but the real one) and also Vipre Rescue from Sunbelt Software, and run it. Then get Vipre antivirus/antispyware (just $29.95 a year) and install it.

Also, get a good registry cleaner - I recommend CleanMyPC Registry cleaner.

Believe it or not the help file is critical for the program to finish the install. If it is showing a corupt file it sounds like it could be a bootleg copy. If it isn't the disk has been damaged. Take care..Mark
