Most likely yout exhaust fan is clogged with dust and lint. You didn't give a model number but some fans are easier to acces than others. Some require disassembly. Excessive heat will ruin your motherboard eventually. If you are not comfortable taking it apart you can try to blow compressed air back throught the exhaust vent for a temp. fix. If you do that stick a paper clip or something else in between the fan vent and fan blades to prevent the fan from spinning when blowing it out. ( a spinning fan will produce an electrical current back through the motherboard connection which you don't want ).

My hp pavilion g7 is overheating and shutting down

first check your ventilation port on the side or back of your laptop. These can become covered in dust and make your laptop very hot. After you've done that, if it's still overheating, try and find a free cpu fan diagnostic tool and make sure the fan is even running or if it's running at the proper speeds. If it's not running, check your drivers. Go to the hp website, then support and downlads and lookup your model laptop. It's on the bottom of your laptop. Download the cpu fan driver if available and reinstall it. If it's still not working after all of that, your fan is shot and will need to be replaced.

Laptop Tips: Overheating Problems

Overheating Frequent overheating will damage the motherboard!..becomes unstable, no display, hang-up and worst black-out or no power at all.
Symptoms: The laptop starts beeping, freezes, restarts by itself or shuts down after it has been on for some time, typically 10-15 minutes or more. If you start it again, it does the same thing after just a few minutes.
Troubleshooting: Most laptops overheat because the fan intake is blocked either from placing the laptop on a soft surface or by dust. In either case you will need to let it cool down before turning it back on (may take up to 30 min). If you suspect that dust is blocking the fan/heat-sink, get a compressed air can and try to clean it now (that will cool down the laptop too).
Sometimes overheating is caused by a fan malfunction. If the fan is completely stuck, the laptop will show an error message immediately after starting. However in rare cases the fan’s fins are just loose or broken and won’t move enough air to cool the laptop.
In either case you should try cleaning the fan(s) and heat-sink(s) with compressed air. That is best done outside, as usually there is a surprising amount of dust accumulated in there. If the laptop continues to overheat, you will need to bring it to a repair shop.
Also if you have dropped the laptop, the screws holding the heat-sink may have broken off. In this case the laptop will overheat in just a couple of minutes as the CPU has lost contact with the heat-sink and is not cooled at all.

Another one is moist inside the motherboard or corrosion.

If this troubles may arise and can't solve it yourself, bring it to certified laptop repair shop.

first find out the reason of hang. mostly two cases (normal) are their one, corrupted or virus affected OS and second is Low RAM or overheating. first reinstall new OS (select OS according to compatibility, in old Laptop XP is gud and in NEW one based on configuration) of not done then check the overheating by CPU cooler FAN and RAM.

vote me if found helpful.

My laptop has been switching off without warning.

This is most likely caused by overheating. This is very common in laptops and can be fixed by getting a laptop cooler or making sure that the vents on the bottom of the laptop will have plenty of airflow. This can be done by using it on a hard surface or slightly elevating it near the vents.

It keep restarting constantly

Is the laptop getting very hot? Rebooting is usually caused by overheating. Try blowing a hairdrier set to cold air into the intake before booting up (Don't blow it onto a hot laptop, wait till it cools a little). If this cures the problem even for a little while, it would confirm the overheating problem.

The next stage is to dismantle (or get someone who is competent) to dismantle the laptop and clean out the CPU fan and intake / radiator matrix. Shoud be done periodically anyway.

If that cures the fault, then I'd suggest buying a USB cooling pad.

Laptop shuts down due to overheating, M50SV

IMOP this laptop appears to have known issues re overheating. Make sure that your cpu fan is clean and all vents are clean. clean top of cpu of all dust and cpu grease residue and reapply a small amount of cpu thermal compound.

Realize that overheating will be an issue and compensate however you can. Most cooling pads are useless, so good luck there. You can throttle down the cpu, a terrible thing to do for a laptop that cost good money.

A SSD drive replacing your hard drive will lower over all temperature of your laptop, guaranteed. Expensive, but has other benefits.

Good luck.

My laptop gets switched off while running though it has enough battery backup. And after that if i tries to restart it doesnt starts up for sometime untill it cools down. What can be done for that. I am...

Seems to be overheating problem. If it is overheating, the motherboard will try to turn off the system to prevent any damage to the processor.

You can use compressed air to clean the cooling vents

Laptop problem

the laptop is full of dust and fluff and needs cleaning before real damage is done because of overheating, buy a can of compressed air and blast it through the vents and the fan area, if you feel adventuous open the laptop up and clean it manually with a soft, clean paintbrush
