Question about Cub Cadet Street Sign- tractor lawn riding mower parts

1 Answer

I have a '05 Cub Cadet Tank 60 Commercial ( I only use it on my three acres). I have 2300 hours on it. It runs, I don't have any trouble starting it, I have a new battery, It's like new!!! Last year after running it awhile I notice when I disengaged the pto switch to get off of it to move or pick-up some thing, when I got back on, engage the pto switch, the blades would not turn on, I headed towards the garage and it would suddenly turn on, if I bounce on the seat, it will turn on. Any Ideas, Thanks

Thanks for a starting place. I have removed the cover and jiggled and wiggled the wires and they seem to be stiff and tight and connected, I have disconnected and put back together the connections on the sensors, (7) and still no luck. Is there a way to test the pto switch, do you know the color code of the wiring, any other suggestions? Thanks John

Hi Azraelsrl, I'm back to give my work/ not working switch another try,
I took the PTO switch out, it looks like new so does my wiring connector, no rust, no corrosion.
I'm not sure how to check continuity on this seven blade switch. My son is an electrical engineer and he will be coming over to try and help. I have all the books that came with the mower.
I'm reading this; Page 18 of my Operator's and service Manual.
The air gap should be checked every 300 hours The air gap should be checked with feeler gages in the three slots of the BBC.
The air gap should be adjusted to 0.013" to0.015". There are three inspection slots i the brake cover. To adjust, successively tighten each of the three gap adjustment nuts an equal amount. Insert a feeler gage into each slot as the air gap adjustment nut are tightened.
The correct adjustment occurs when slight contact with the feeler gage occurs.
Engage the BBC a couple of times, and recheck the air gap.
Can you translate this for me?
Where are the air gaps located?
    What is BBC? Thanks, John

Most likely the switch itself is at fault: the metal blades inside it that make the contact have prematurely lost their elasticity and the contact becomes ify. You will have to replace the switch.
It just pops out of the dash and the cable just plug in - move the cables one at a time with the battery disconnected.

The switch is easy to test: just take it out (make a schematic with the wires first) then just test the continuity between plots, with and without the switch pressed.
Here is a very similar wiring

The BBC is the clutch of the blades power wheel - it's the part that transmits the power from the motor to the blades when needed. In it there is a electromagnet that is commanded by the PTO switch. When the switch is pressed it sends power to the electromagnet which in turn press some shoes on the drum/cover of the wheel. In time these shoes wear out and they need readjusting - if the space (here called air gap) is too large they will not make sufficient contact and the blades won't spin. It's the same stuff like on a drum brake in an old car. To adjust the gap you follow the instructions

My 04 cub cadet m60 tank with a 27hp Koehler just up and quits after 20 min. I just changed oil and filter and "change oil " is blinking. Help

I'm not a Cub dealer but the "change oil" light should reset itself after usually an hour of use. check the oil level for the no start. if it has an oil level switch and is low, there will be no spark.

Cub cadet dies 20 minutes after starting

Slacke off the fuel filler cap when it starts to die, if it picks up again the fuel tank breather is blocked.

Mower will start up cold, i will mow for a half hour then it sputters and dies. After it sits for a while and cools it will start again, but not as easily as the first time. It will again mow for a while...

The valves DO NEED adjusting every 250 to 300 hours of service. That is why it dies out beleive me. It is not that hard to do if you have a service manual to help you along to perform this task

I have a cub cedet commercial tank 60 zero turn lawn mower, and i need to change lawn mower blades. Which way should i turn the nut to take the blades off.

As viewed from the bottom, if the blade turns clockwise, then the bolt should have a left-hand thread. A possible exception would be if the blade cannot slip relative to the shaft. This could be the case if the blade (not the washer) has a D shaped hole in it.
Good luck, Al K
