Getting use genuine battery error

-   i have had my phone for quite awhile and just the other day i shut it off to give the battery to my sis. because my charger is broke and ya it wouldnt turn back on since-   Guest

-   I have this problem from a used phone I bought from a guy for 20 bucks to replace my teenagers broken phone. It worke fine when I bought it, but got home and took out the battery to call verizon an have them activate it. Now it wont turn on it says use genuine battery and then does a count down to power off. I am currently soaking it in nail polish remover since i had no rubbing alcohol. Then I will let it ry out and see if it will work. The battery ha water damage, but the phone did not. I dont want to replace the battery if it wont solve the problem.-   fulldawn
