Two things to try:

1:see if you can slide the lock switch to the middle and leave it there

2: Tape a small piece of brown package tape across the switch, keep doing this until it works. Mine took 3 pieces, but it works every time.

be careful, it may get stuck in unit. have tweezers ready.

Good luck with it.

Upon startup, the screen has a message that reads: Memory Card Locked! How do I unlock it?

You didn't specify the make and model of your camera, so I'm assuming it uses SD cards.

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

I cant take pictures cause the card it self is locked and i cant get it to unlock

it uses a SD card which has a lock & unlock button in the side. moz-screenshot-1.pngmoz-screenshot-2.png559f90a.jpg

try sliding it up to unlock, if it doesn't work then the card is no longer useful. u can give the card to the manufacturer if under warranty, usual takes a lot of time, or u can get a new card.

Memery card locked moved tab on the side

If this is occurring with multiple cards, or is saying "card locked" even though the tiny slide switch is in the unlocked position, then see this post for another possible remedy.

SD card locked for Samsung SL202

Hi,

This used to happen occassionaly with my canon camers. Just use a peice of scotch tape or if you have one a small dab of hot glue to stop it from sliding.

Hope this helps FixYa,

My memory card on my Canon PowerShot SD700 IS is on "card lock." I have idea what that means or how to fix it. It's not in the user guide or online. I'm wondering if it has to do with a setting...

Remove the SD memory card from the camera. On its left side is a tiny slide switch. Slide it from the "Lock" position (written right by it) to the "unlocked" position. If already in the unlocked position, sldie it once to Lock, and then back to the unlocked position. Reinsert it in your camera and try it out.

The lock switch is a feature on SD cards that temporarily prevents writing any more data to the card. The idea being that you may wish to protect an extra special picture that you don't want to accidentally erase until you get home and download it to your computer.

Little sliding switch on the side of the SD memory card. Remove from camera, slide switch away from lock position, re-install and you should be good to go.

hi
the unlocking is due to digital camera and not due to card. card do not have any locking feature. checkup on camera password
