Open the Start Menu and right-click on My Computer. Click on the 'Hardware' tab, then on 'Device Manager'. Expand the 'Sound, Video & Game Controllers' and right-click on the Sound Card device. Choose either Update Driver' or 'Install' and 'Search Online'. Once done, restart the computer.

If this is a dell computer, you just need to insert your Resource CD on your optical drive. Once it's in, you'll be given the option to reinstall the sounds on your computer. Or you can also go to DELL's website online to download the sound driver.

The website address is: , you would need to click drivers and downloads, then you'll be asked to either enter your service tag or select the model of your product. Once you're able to choose the correct model or have entered your service tag, the options for the drivers of your computer will be selected on the page, however, you would need to select the operating system of your computer to list the compatible drivers for it.

Once you did, you would need to select the audio driver and download it in your computer, once finished, you just need to run it so that it'll be installed in your computer. Restart the computer then, the sounds will automatically activate.

Hope this helps!

Scans always show registry problems. Can I clean for free &fix?I have a Gateway win 8 desktop, and 6 drivers out of date, no sound

You should update the drivers. It's easy -- Windows will do it for you -- and that may solve your sound problem. My guess, though, is the sound problem is hardware-based. If you plug your external speakers into an analog audio jack, for example, it automatically shuts off other speakers.

Don't mess with the registry yourself unless you know what you're doing.

There are "free" programs that promise to fix registry errors. I don't recommend them. They present a list of recommended fixes and ask you to click OK. Unless you know something about the registry and can uncheck listings that you know shouldn't be removed, you can wind up wiping out something that's crucial to one of your programs -- or to Windows! If you do decide to use one of those programs, be SURE to make a copy of your registry and also set a restore point so you can go back to what you had before if something gets broken.

One exception: broken links can be removed safely.

Acer Computer... extremely slow response time.

try installing ccleaner. It is free software from
once installed go to the tools then to startup and disable anything running in the startup. then run cleaner. If it is still running slow change the ram. There may be some kind of driver issue with your speakers. They may also be bad speakers. Who knows' but the netbooks are not going to have the best quality of sound anyways. worst case buy headphones or external speakers

Audio Configuration fudged

Sometimes when you delete a software that relies on your sound, it will accidently erase the sound driver. Look on the front of your computer and write down the model number of your computer. Example Dell 2400. Go to manufacturers website and click on support and drivers. Find your brand and redownload/install audio driver. Reboot and your all done!

I accidently uninstalled a program and now no sound.

Have you tried doing a restore from a previous day like the day before or somewhere close when you know you last had sound? or you may need to install drivers if you removed some. Try a restore to an earlier time then if that doesn't work come back here and post your speaker model and number I'll got into this further. Also might want to do a DXDIAG on your system and test the sound as well. to do this go into Start> Run type dxdiag press enter and let it do it's thing then goto sound at top and test and see if you hear anything if not u need drivers if you do may need to do restore also check your device manager and look for sound devices and check that they are ok and no ? marks by anything. If this helps you in any way please Rate thanks :) Good Luck Mike..

I don't know if you manually erase those drivers, but I recommend you reinstall the drivers with the setup option, then uninstall them, again reinstall them ans see if work, or depending the OS if is Xp or Vista, ?
