Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

My Toshiba 34HDX82 TV has a sound problem. I turn the volume up to 99 and I can barely hear it hissing. I can see the picture fine, but no sound from the program. I checked to make sure it wasn't on Mute. Any suggestions?

This model of Toshiba has an independant sound board that has gone out. If you open the tv (be careful) you can trace the speaker wires to this board. You can buy a direct replacement from ebay, shopjimmy, etc. The board will be stamped with a serial number of the board. You will need a direct replacement. This board also has a series of large capacitors that you could replace to see if it will fix your problem. The downside to the 34HDX82 is that parts are VERY hard to come by, thus I recommend the capacitor repair on the sound board.

Cannot hear the sond on Sylvannia TV 6615LCT

This will sound strange, but some DVD players and cable boxes have separate volume controls. I would check the settings for both of those to make sure that the volume has not been turned down and also check the connections from the dvd player and cable box to the tv. Make sure all connections are solid.

Hissing sound from a Panasonic old TV...Sound and picture are OK. The hissing sound even continues when the MUTE on the Box is ON. The hissing only stops when the MUTE on the TV is ON. I am using the...

If you disconnect or power off the converter box does the hiss go away?
If you connect a VCR or DVD player does it still have the hiss? We
need to isolate what source is causing the hiss if it is from the set or
if it is from the converter box.
When you turn the volume control down on the set, does the hiss
reduce in level? If mute stops it, it should reduce in level as you
turn the volume down. Then turn up the sound level control on
the converter box whether its a manual control or by remote. If you
can get a combination that minimizes the hiss and gets higher sound
level from the programming that may cure it.
I am not familiar with the converter box you are using. Are you using
Audio/Video cables from it to the set or is it coming out with coaxial cable
and used on a channel? If you are using a very old set with a tuner input
perhaps the fine tuning is out of adjustment.

PS32500 32" TV Problem

The sound that you hear is coming from the sound detector not working or not receiving any audio. If the set is set to a second audio (SAP) program this could be you trouble. Some programs are broadcast this way. (such as Spanish for Spanish speaking people. Check you audio program settings.
