Dell d340. need to enter admin password in bios to reorder boot sequence to accept usb first - its locked and i cant remember password. tried removing cmos battery and replacing but no good. help!

Try the backdoor password Dell

With a PSWD Reset Jumper Step 1Open the access panel to the password reset jumper if your Dell laptop has one. Consult your manual for the access panel's location. Some access panels have a tab you slide, while others are held in place with a screw.
Step 2Pry the plastic cover off the reset jumper with your fingernail. The reset jumper is a small pin port labeled "PSWD" with three pins. Put the plastic back onto the jumper over pin 1 and 2 instead of 2 and 3. Wait 90 seconds.
Step 3Pry the plastic off the reset jumper again and place it back onto the number 2 and 3 pins. Turn the laptop on. Repeat step 2 if the password is still present. Leave the plastic clip on pins 1 and 2 for a longer duration than last time.

Without a PSWD Reset Jumper Step 1Locate the reserve battery, also known as the CMOS battery, if your Dell laptop is not equipped with a password reset jumper. The CMOS battery's location varies among Dell laptop models. Consult your manual for the battery's location on your specific Dell laptop model. Many Dell reserve batteries are located underneath the main laptop battery. Remove the main battery and look for a sticker under it with instructions on removing the secondary CMOS battery.
Step 2Remove your Dell's reserve battery per the instruction manual or sticker located under the main battery. Removing the reserve battery resets the laptop's BIOS password. Wait 90 seconds, then replace the reserve battery. Reconnect the main battery.
Step 3Press the "Power" button to turn the laptop on.

Good luck

Dismantle

Yikes ... only way to reset the BIOS is to either flash it or reset it. Reseting involves taking apart your laptop, finding the CMOS battery and shorting it.

I would look up your laptop vendor to see if they have a manual on how to disable your laptop.

Factory reset samsung r519 laptop

RTM - Read The Manual.

Your manual says if you can boot into windows then click Start/All Programs/Samsung/Samsung Recovery Solution

If you cannot boot into windows when you turn the computer on hit the F4 key.

The link below will take you directly to your manual

You need to replace the cmos battery. That's why the time keeps resetting back to 2002.

Post another question on this forum and ask for the service manual for your model. There are techs on here with access to them.

Otherwise you can take your laptop to a local repair shop and they can service it for you. Make sure you don't get overcharged. The batteries are like $5 so total cost should be around $40-$60.

Reset bios password or remove

Search for !BIOS,
or
remove the battery on the laptop's motherboard, wait a few minutes, then reinsert the battery,
or
Read your laptop's manual and find a BIOS reset jumper, and put a piece of metal between the two prongs to reset the BIOS.

Forgotten password

If you lost your windows password, try a program called "ophcrack-win32-installer-3.0.1.exe" or "ophcrack-xp-livecd-2.0.1.iso". These will crack and show any windows based usename and password on your computer.  If the problem is the bios password, for starting your laptop, then you will have to reset the bios (check manual) or remove the battery pack and on board Li battery to reset Bios. I would check the manual first. On old Toshiba laptops you could jump the parrallel pins to reset the bios, not sure on the Gateway. I will check further.

Recovering password or reseting

Well the failsafe way to do that is to remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard. But that involves opening the case to the laptop and finding/removing it.

Opening a laptop is certainly not an easy thing to do, however.

Another option is to find your model number, go to the SONY website and find the manual. There may be instructions in the manual on how to clear the CMOS password.

Also, there is sometimes a RESET button on the bottom of laptops. (It'll usually require a paperclip to activate it.) If your laptop has that, then it'll most likely clear the CMOS password.

Good luck.
