Question about Garmin nuvi 260W GPS Receiver

1 Answer

I have a Garmin nuvi 260. Just recently I lost my satellite connection. The little auto on the screen just has a "?" flashing over it. For some reason my home town is given as Olathe, KS. I live in Wisconsin. I tried resetting the GPS but when I try entering my own address it says: "no matches found".

Open mapsource while the device is plugged in and tell it to restore your device, as it sounds like your maps have become corrupted

I dropped my Garming Nuvi 260 this past weekend and when I turn it on it goes to a screen saying Updating GPS Firmware 1% then jumps to Updating GPS Firmware Complete. It keeps popping up with these...

Inspect the bottom of your Nuvi 260. According to the owner's manual, some models have a small "Reset" button on the bottom. If yours does, you'll use this to reset the Nuvi 260.Press and hold the "Reset" button for several seconds, until the Nuvi powers off and powers back on. Next try
to slide the power switch on top all the way to the left to reset your Nuvi if it does not have a "Reset" button. Performing this action resets the system.
Next try a hard reset.
Slide the power switch to "Off."
Press your finger against the screen in the lower-right corner. Hold your finger in this position.
Slide the power switch to "On" to turn the Nuvi on. Continue holding your finger on the screen until the pop-up window appears. When it does, press "Yes" to reset your Nuvi to its factory settings.

Hope this works but dropping may have caused internal damage. If this does not work you may have to send it back to Garmin for service. I will attach a link for Garmin. Thanks for using FixYa.

My Garmin nuvi 260 is only 6 months old and it can

First make sure you have the latest software in it.
If it does try a Master Reset.
Lastly, unless you're in a strange location with poor reception. Take it back. Or, it's still under warranty.

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} To perform a Master Reset on your nuvi 260 series device:
Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.
  1. Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power
  2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
  3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON
  4. Release the power button when the device powers ON
    • You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?
  5. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays
  6. Touch Yes
The device will automatically reset. Follow the on screen prompts then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

Garmin nuvi system software missing 265W i try to update my garmin nuvi 260. I see on the screen: sytem software missing. I cannot do anything else. Please, help!

I can help you reset and fix your Garmin Nuvi 265W.

Getting stuck on the flashing Garmin logo, or a message about not finding any maps, are indications that the firmware / system software inside your GPS has been corrupted.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi 265W running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

Garmin Nuvi 260

Check to make sure that the unit is not in demo mode. Go through the menus to find where the demo mode is located. Cycle it on and off.

If this does not work, I suggest calling Garmin tech support to find out if they have a simple solution.

In the worse case you will have to send the GPS in for service.
