To set up printer sharing in your home network, you need to configure printer options in the control panel of Windows XP Operating System. You could get a menu while right clicking the printer icon in the Control Panel. From this, you need to select the sharing option. You also need to make sure that you have enabled printer sharing option in the network card properties. To connect a printer in the network you need to set an IP address for your printer. If you have any troubles with printing with your printer in the network it might due to the errors in the network. So, you need to make sure the network connection.

If you have tried the normal printer wizard process and were unable to get a printer to function, then verify the network name of the computer that has the shared printer and the share name of the printer, then follow these steps. Worked for Me.

Windows 7

Go to CONTROL PANEL. Choose DEVICES and PRINTERS. The choose ADD PRINTER.

Choose ADD A LOCAL PRINTER. Click on CREATE A NEW PORT. Select in the drop down box, LOCAL PORT. Click NEXT.

A dialogue box will appear asking you to enter a port name. Type in: \\computername\printername

In Vista

Go to CONTROL PANEL. Choose PRINTER.

Why cant my windows xp share printer w windows 7?

Hi Chris,

Make sure that both Computers are turned ON if you are printing from Win7 through Win xp

Also make sure that the printer is installed on both machines and that the printer sharing is set up, and that both computers are on the same Workgroup.
Also make sure that the Turn On network discovery is activated in windows7 for XP to be able to detect it on the network, and that the File Printer Sharing is also activated, make sure everything in the sharing settings is activated in the network.

I hope that this will help,

Unable to connect to an existing shared printer thru wireless network via dlink wi-fi router using cisco wusb54gc v3, where as using the linksys wusb v1.0 have no problem. am running windows xp

I assume that the printer is connected to the wireless network, if that is that case have you tried running the installer CD for the printer on the Windows XP machine. Then at a certain step when it asks the connection type, choose shared printer or network printer.
It might be that it is not able to detect the printer because of a driver missing.

How to share printer B-SX5T , under Windows XP

Hi there,

Please follow the below steps -

1) Go to Start and click Control Panel. Control Panel Window will appear, then double click Printers and faxes.

2) Printers and Faxes window will appear. Right click the printer you want to share, then click Sharing…

Note: Make sure you've enabled File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on network card's properties.

3) Select Sharing tab and tick Share this printer to share the printer. You can type in a new name in the Share name text box to change your printer name on the network, however this will not change the printer name on your computer. Click Apply.

Note: If the other users using different version of Windows to access your printer, they will need to install printer driver themselves. You can help by installing additional printer drivers on your Windows XP, so that the printer driver will be installed when other users access the shared printer with different version of Windows. Click Additional Drivers, tick additional driver you would like to install. You will be prompted to install those additional drivers after clicking OK.

4) Once you have shared the printer, you will see there is a hand supporting your printer.

Please post comments if you need more help or information...........

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Network printer problem

1. How are these two computers networked? Through a router, or by a crossover cable?

2. Is the network workgroup the same on both computers?

3. Have you tried turning off any firewalls or rerunning their workgroup setup?

4. Remember, to share the printer the host computer must be on. Is it?

5. Did you right click on that printer and choose share this on the network? Also: the lack of a login prompt is probably the problem. To see,
