Question about Canon Photography

1 Answer

Hi I have a Canon 500D and the camera, not the sd card, is is on card lock and I do not know how to remove it. I have looked in menu and gone to 'protect Images' and it says "Card write protected'. Are you able to tell me how to take the card lock off? I have moved the slip on the SD card which has not removed it. Thanks Carolyn

Hi Carolyn. There could be several reasons for locked card. 1. pin on side of the SD card must be in UP position, not DOWN2. Reformat your card via computer to FAT323. Card reader inside camera has one "little piece" inside for monitoring if the pin on SD card is pulled down or not. If this "little piece" is bent or broken, your camera could mean that SD card is locked. In this case easiest way is to return camera back to shop. Or if you like, disassembly camera, but you will lost your warranty.

Check the HDMI, mini-USB, and SD card connectors for damage. The DC/DC board is part of the front board and it comes with the battery compartment. Check front and back of board for liquid damage and impact. Check SD card slot for damage to the contacts.

As long as it is the right card for your camera you shouldn't have a problem. Try removing it and installing a smaller card, (make sure you power down the Camera 1st).

How do I correct Card write protected

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Have a canon t1I EOS 500D camera that is showing a card write protection problem. Does it with any memory card I've tried so far. Any solutions?

The detection switch is either bent or broken. If you can see it you may be able to bend it back in position with a very small screwdriver blade. Otherwise the ASD circuit board the SD card unit is on will have to be replaced.

Does the camera have an internal memory?

The 500D doesn't have any internal memory for picture taking. It won't store any pictures unless you insert an SD card in the slot just above the battery on the right side of the camera (when you are looking at the screen)

Card Write Protected

Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.
If this doesn't do it, try another card.

How do you format an sd memory card?

Hi,

You should be able to use the camera's menu to format the SD card, just go into the setting menu to format it.

Also make sure the write protect lock is off on the SD card itself. To remove the write protect lock, take the memory card out of the camera, face the card towards you, look for a small white tab on the left hand side of the card, to unlock it push the tab up to unlock it, it will be at the side of the card like this 59a6de4.jpg .

Canon a590 Card (not really) Locked

Remove the SD card from the camera. Slide the tiny switch on the side of the card to its other "unlocked" position. Reinsert the card in the camera. But if you've already tried this, see this link for additional things that you can try.
