Question about Seagate ST320005EXA101RK 2 TB USB 20 Hard Drive

1 Answer

Hi there I hope you can help me out. I recently bought a Seagate ST320005EXD101-RK 2 Terabyte external USB hard drive. I have a windows vista setup on my laptop. I plugged in the harddrive and windows recognised the drive no problem. But whenever i try to copy a file to the Seagate drive, it hangs during the copy process, and I have to shut it down with task manager as it wont even let me cancel the process. Do you know what could be causing this? (Ps Although the drive was already formatted to NTFS I am now currently reformatting the drive and I will try again when it is complete.)

SOURCE: External case removal, Seagate ST3160026A-RK External drive

You remove the foot/stand unit, then the silver cover with the circular rubber ring can be carefully pried off. If you do this, you'll void the warranty, so if you want to do this because your unit is dead, then you should return it for a warranty repair. If you're doing this to put a larger capacity drive in the box, be aware that larger or faster hard drives might generate more heat which could adversely affect the new drive's ability to operate properly.

SOURCE: New Seagate FreeAgentPro USB eSATA 500GB power on light not glows

Thank you for your reply.

I have solved the problem with local help.

Printed installation manual of Seagate 500 GB eSATA external hard drive has not properly mentioned how to use power on/off switch once connected to mains. I could get local help, who has already used the device. On/Off switch to be pressed for few seconds after mains connected, sometimes it comes automatically once power is on and USB cable pluged to the USB port of PC if power supply is ok. There is no indicator for the power supply (before device glows) after connected to the mains. I was in confusion whether power supply is ok or not.

Finally, It was found that the problem was with mains power supply and I have changed the power socket and adapter.

Sounds like driver problem to me. Re install the driver by using installation disc, or if you have lost your CD, than use this Driver Update Software to update. I hope this helped.

Itunes messed up my external hardrive

I doubt that iTunes really moved/reorganized files on your computer.

iTunest may have created its own "Table Of Contents", presenting a "view" of all your files.

Open "My Computer" and open your external hard-drive.
The files should be in "your" order.

Open "My Documents". Open "My Music".
The files should be in "your" order.

If iTunes really did "reorganize" your files, there's no way to "go back", because "Windows System Restore" does not automatically created time-stamped backups of your 'My Documents' folder (nor of any external disk-drive -- where would it put that much data???).

Check the HDD on a different USB port. It there is still problem, try that with a different computer. If it still shows this issue, try changing the USB cable. If the issue persist, its your HDD.
