My ps3 was recently connected to a hdmi cord at my friends house now im back home nd i plug the av cords in and nothing is coming up its still connected to the hdmi

Have you used the HDMI cable with the PS3 before? it may be configured to use the AV connection. If so plug in an AV lead, then you would need to find in the settings to change the output to HDMI.

The HDMI cable may not work

Press windows key and P to switch between monitor modes

The PS3 has to be configured to put out HDMI or AV(RCA plug)output.The easiest way to switch between is to connect both cords to the same TV,so you can swap to the other ouput and verify it works.(In other words,if you had the PS3 set on HDMI,you have to connect with an HDMI cord unless you change it in the PS3's settings).I think this was an energy saving solution by Sony,bacause I'm sure they could figure out how to make both work at the same.

You will need to turn on the PS3 and hook it up with rca so you can access the console menus. Turn it on and get to the main dashboard. 1. Go to Settings -> Display Settings (not video) 2. Select [ Video Output Settings ] 3. Select HDMI 4. Select Resolution 5. Select Screen Size 6. Save the settings 7. Reboot the console. This should resolve the problem. We've seen PS3 consoles that would not reset by performing a hard reset. We were able to resolve this issue through the settings menu though. Try entering Recovery Mode and choose "Restore Default Settings".


If that doesn't help, you may have an HDMI port failure - which will require returning the unit to Sony or sending it to a third-party PS3 repair shop.

connect back to your old tv and reset the ps3 to default settings then connect to your new tv.

this is a very simple fix leave cords in your sony with ps3 on standby hold the power button on ps3 itself down for 10sec your ps3 will switch back to av cables

you need an optical lead for the sound and hdmi for the picture

When you switch from one cable connection to another (Hdmi to AV etc) you need to reset the PS3 to its default settings. Basically what is happening is, your PS3 is set to HDMI, so when you plug in AV cables it doesn't know it. So you have to reset it. Hook your PS3 up to whatever cables (make sure system is fully off) then hold the front power button down for a few seconds.

Doing this will reset the display settings. You can then go into the XMB (main menu) and choose your connection. Although the PS3 should do this during the start up on its own.
