Since the procedure almost certainly varies from one make and model to another, you need to include your unit's info.

    download this
Download the TND DOCK Software here.
    http://trucking.randmcnally.com/ctonline...

This software is actually on your device and when you plug it in it should automatically run to install it. If you havent got it then open the file once its downloaded and install it

Click "View License Agreement" then click "Accept."

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

  • Martin Murray Apr 06, 2011

Now when you connect your device the program should automatically start when it detects the device and download any updates that are available and install them on it.

I have a garmin 260w that was a gift in dec 2009. I want to update the maps to the unit and thought there wasa n option at no charge but I cant find it. Do you have instructions on how to update unit for...

Sorry, no free maps. I know I've tried. You either live withthe old map or buy the latest version.
I bought the life time maps updates and I'm glad I did.
I've updated my maps at least 6 times.
New maps are about $70.
Life time maps are about $99 (when I bought mine)
BUT FIRST make SURE you have the latest software in YOUR computer and in YOURGarmin before you load any maps.
You can get that FREE at Garmin here:

To download the latest unit software visit Garmin website: www.garmin.com/webupdater First you have to set up an account at Garmin using theserial number on your GPS. Once you do that you can download firmware updatefor free. After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect yourcompatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from yourcomputer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start","Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater" REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a mapupdate.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps. By the way, thecorrect Garmin approved power OR download cables are a must!! Does this help? Let us know. Thanks.

with the unit off

Connect your GPS to your computer using the supplied USB cable (if you dont have that cable, most camera usb cables are the same)

Your computer will detect your GPS usb port connection....

now go to www.MyGarmin.com this is where you Register your unit to update maps or Firmware....

The site will detect your model and give you the lastest software and map update
