The computer freezes and the screen turns into colourfull lines after installing the Ati radeon 9500 driver.

The video processor in the card (that gets activated only after the driver is installed) is defective - you need a new video card.

I have a 2007 Mac Pro with a Radeon graphic card. It's red and plugs into the tower main frame. I recently purchased an LED cinema display and the mac sales rep said I needed to upgrade my graphics...

in this case it sounds like you will have to replace it, but why won't the GFX card you have cope? resolution or connectivity. The Radeon HD 2400 is quite a capable card.

Ati radeon 9800 error message on bootup

the error means that you do not have a power cod connected on the card or the power supplied by the PS is not enough for the card to run.

Remove power from the parts in the PC that you are not using anymore and try to reinstall the card.

worst case is getting another power supply about 600 watts

Where do i plug the power supply from my 7900GS to??

you need a Power Supply with a 6-pin PCI-express power connector, or either a 4-pin molex to 6-pin PCI-e converter. One of these converters should probably came with your graphics card.
The power connector in your card is located on the top-right corner if you pick it with the GPU facing towards you.

Comparable cards to the ATI All In Wonder 9700 Pro 128 MB

Hello there. The Radeon 9700 Pro was a high end graphics card in its time. Today the latest Radeon cards are 3870X2, 3870 and 3850 models. The 3850, while mid-high end range, would be a substantial upgrade from the Radeon 9700 Pro.

If you are planning to upgrade your system, make sure you choose the correct type of card (AGP/PCI-E) and that your current system has a good enough power supply to power a new upgrade.

Hope this helps.

Swap 9800 Pro for 9700 Pro

You must uninstall the current driver and reinstall the driver for the 9800 Pro first:
http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
Power supply recommended is 300watt for each, so that is not a factor. It would have to be a driver conflict.
