Question about NEC MultiSync Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a NEC MultiSync E1100+ monitor that starts up ok with a great picture but after about 2 minutes the entire top half of the screen goes black. The remaining half displays correctly. Sometimes it will snap back to a correct display but will only last that way for a couple of minutes, and the top half goes black again. The monitor was purchased new in 1999 and this problem started about 9 months later. I have had the monitor in storage because none of the shops in my area would even look at it. It was almost $500 new so I have been reluctant to discard it, hoping that someday I could find some way to get it fixed. I have 3 of these monitors, two of them have been working without problems since I purchased them in 2000.

SOURCE: NEC MultiSync lcd 2010 monitor blank screen

This is the common bad capacitor problem. The caps have died inside, and they can be replaced. If you have basic electronics skills, you can go in, order replacement caps, and unsolder and resolder. If you can't do it yourself, you can take it into a shop.

Here is a link to the Cap plague that explains what happens in detail. But I repair these all the time with that symptom.

SOURCE: nec Multisync LCD 195VXM+ black screen after turning on computer

I'm thinking your video card is sending a signal the monitor doesn't recognize.
You'll need to start the computer and hit F8 until you get the black and white menu. Choose the VGA mode and it should work well enough for you to adjust the refresh rate or the resolution to get the monitor to work

Does the power light stay on? If so, you have an inverter problem. If the power light goes off, you have a power supply problem.

Remove the back on NEC LCD 2010X

Remove the 2 screws from the bottom of the screen at the back of the monitor. Half way between where you removed those screws use a flat tip screwdriver or similar to push the back plastic shell in & up to release the clip holding the 2 parts together. Similar clips also hold the top sections together. Good luck

NEC P1250+ hisses and scrren blips intermittently

I had the same problem. Your monitor is warning you of failure. The hissing sound is the picture tube powering up. The momentary blank screen is when the power supply for the monitor has become hot. Your monitor is getting ready to quit. My suggestion is to buy a new monitor. To have a tech repair it would be more expensive then buying a new one.
