Question about JVC XV-N320 DVD Player

1 Answer

I used my Pioneer DVD-RAM DVR-112CH for a few years; and I was able to play all my discs without any problems (all are legit). I mainly use AnyDVD to play any of my DVDs. But I had noticed recently that when I try and play certain discs (which had played before, mind you!) my DVD player would try and read it, then eventually say that there's no disc. Yet, I am able to play other discs just fine (no matter the region). I had tried downloading different versions of AnyDVD, but to no avail. I even tried to uninstall it, yet nothing happened. Could someone give me some advice, please?

Hi, You can try testing the discs on a different player. The problem may be with a scratched disc or damaged disc. The player seems to be fine if it works with other discs. In any case, I have provided a link to the player's manual: http://tv.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/jvc/jvc_xv_n320b_xvn320b.html

What can be done about "Unrecognisable and Unreadable" disc message from Pioneer DVR player. THe Background: We have just purchased a new Sony TV 46" Bravia bla blah blah. It's...

It's a hardware problem: the Star Wars disks are not as reflective as they should - the aluminium layer that was deposited during manufacturing isn't up to specs so they reflect less from the laser beam - and the sensor from the Pioneer is at the low limit of the specs. The end result is that the laser beam that reflects from these disks is too weak to activate the sensor so the disks are simply not accepted with that message.
Unfortunately there is no fix to that problem: you can't make the disks more reflective and you can't make the sensor more sensible. You will either have to use the older player for all the disks that will behave like that (and there will be others, you can be sure of that) or you will have to replace/return the Pioneer.

Will this burner work on dual layer discs?

Pioneer has released Firmware for the DVR-107D DVD Writer and DVR-A07XLA & XLB DVD Writer. This release # is 1.18.
http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/computer/firmware.html
(a ZIP file download, but uncompresses to an .EXE, as does theflashman.rpc1.org site download. I can't uncompress the EXEs with Stuffit (standard) Expander v7.0x here, but Scott said he used version 8.0.2 )
Looks like we are getting closer to Dual Layer Support:
(although some have flashed NEC ND-2500A drives to DL 2510 model firmware, I doubt that Pioneer will release an official firmware update for the 107D to add dual-layer burning. Like other mfrs, I suspect they'll sell a new drive model with DL burning support.)
For Models DVR-107D FW Version 1.18
  • DVD-R Writability Improvement
  • +R Writability Improvement
  • DVD-RAM Playability Improvement
  • CD Playability Improvement
  • +R DL DoubleLayer Playback Implemented (NOT Record)

How to record dvd in ordinary format?

I will presume it plays back fine on your dvd recorder.
In this case, you need to "finalize disc" for it to be playable on other dvd players.

Also, possibly, If you are using a dvd-ram disc, you must make sure that the dvd-player you are trying to use even supports dvd-ram. Most will NOT.

Also, Make sure you are not recording in VR mode. Only some very new dvd-players will support VR mode discs.

Pioneer dvd r/rw wont play a dvd

If your computer recognizes a disc in the drive and operates normally, Id assume you would need a DVD player or codec to be able to actually watch the DVD. PowerDVD rings a bell.
Have you tired that? I know Windows Media Player by default wont let you watch a movie without first downloading a codec.

Can not read disc

I mainly use my DVR to record TV shows on DVD-RAM discs (Panasonic brand or Maxell). I've had no problems with the DVD-RAM discs. However, today when I put a DVD-R disc in the recorder, I got an "Incompatible Disc" error message. I tried a second disc from the same set, and got the same message. I tried out some of the DVD-Rs that I recorded last year and I could read them. Tried a DVD-RAM. That was OK. So, I tried another DVD-R disc. That one is OK. I don't know if the problem is that these DVD-Rs are getting a little old (2 years??) or if the recorder is developing its own problems reading discs.

Region free & Shrink

Found something that might work here^^ Try it and let me know.
Use DVD43(freeware) or AnyDVD or DVD Region-Free to make your region locked DVD drive and your software player region free. You can also "patch" your DVD drives firmware, you find patched DVD drives firmwares here (freeware but it may be a bit tricky and "dangerous").
Plz click on teh links^^
