Question about Frigidaire FAS256R2A 25,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner with Electronic Controls Full-Function Remote...

1 Answer

My AC, Model# FAS256R2A, IS HAVING PROBLEMS. The compressor is not coming on at all now. I used it last week and the only way the compressor would come on is when I started the ac in 'cool' mode set on 60. When I turned it on in fan mode and then switched to cool mode...the compressor would 'not' kick in. When the compressor was working, the air was super cold. As well, when I turn the ac on in fan mode it gives the wrong temperature....it's 30 degrees cooler than what it actually is. Your help would be greatly appreciated!

The compressor is fine. The model I have doesn't have a knob but is digital. When have the a/c turned to fan mode, I am getting a temperature reading that is usually 20 degrees cooler than it actually is. I had a friend to look at it and we took the cover off.....he placed the end of the thermomister, the wire that reads the temp, under a lighter to make the reading hot and the compressor kicked on. I replaced the thermomister and the problem still exist. What now?

Hi

look at your problem, very similar to the issue with my unit for a moment before.

trying to do troubleshooting on your thermostat unit by removing two wires connected to the temostart then include both the wire without connecting it to the temostart. try to switch your unit and see the results. If the problem is finished, it means you have to replace these temostart but if otherwise, put the wire back temostart and do tests on the relay and capacitor by providing a relay and a capacitor of the same type in your unit. (relay located at the top or edge of the compressor in the unit cover rear unit)Perform troubleshooting on the relay.
see the results,Normally if the troubleshooting is complete, but the problem remains the same is most likely the main problem is the compressor or the wire connections inside the window unit have a problem and it forces you to do a more detailed examination of the process as is normally done by providing the service.

if the compressor and all it was listed in good condition. most likely it is a matter of not enough gas or a capacitor problem and it requires you to examine in greater detail.

Car stalls when ac or defrost on

Sounds like the compressor is dragging the engine down. The compressor runs in ac and defrost mode. You might try unplugging the compressor to verify.

if truck runs normal until u put on a/c- the a/c compressor could probably be seizing causing the engine to bog down -if u are able to get a set of gauges to hook up to or run a/c and feel the a/c lines for cooling if no cooling affect or the compressor i turning spuratically than compressor is bad and causing ur bog/stall problems

Unit blows cool air out but doesn't cool room off. the compressor is not coming on. had freon checked ok

I have a question, how was the freon checked if the compressor is not coming on. If the compressor is not coming on, make sure it is received the proper voltage, if it has a capacitor make sure the capacitor is good. Also, how clean are the coils on the unit?

Take it back or call Sears. A 2 week old unit should not do that. I'll assume the settings are right like set on AC Auto or Max cool and not just fan. Are the coils icing or were they icing behind the filter? If not, I think it may need to be serviced.

Whine when air conditioner compressor engaged at lower speeds

If it is coming from under the hood(whine)then the ac compressor is either low on oil,or it is about to go out.Sometimes ac compressors will last a good long time, but sometimes they whine right before they lock up.So look for some ac compressor problems.Have a mechanic check it out,but it will most likely need to be changed out(compressor and components).

Kenmore Upright Freezer Works Sometime

try a new start relay and overload kit specifically for the make and model freezer you are working on. if compressor can be seen ,the numbers on it can be used to get correct oem start cap, relay ,and overload. if your unit is having starting problems that will usually fix it. if however, the stat is failing to bring it on a new stat is called for. but it sounds like it is having starting problems since you said it was off a long while then still struggled on the overload to start then finally did. if the new start components don't work then new freezer time. compressor replacement is to expensive anymore. good luck

AC Problems

If there is no gas in the system it as you pointed out the low pressure switch will shut the power to the clutch in the compressor off. your pressureswitch should be located near the dryer at the front of your Benz. You could try and bridge it to see if the compressor engages, how ever DO NOT try and keep it engaged without gas in the system or you may find yourself having to change the compressor again.
