The belt or belts transfers power from the motor to the transmission and pump. If the belt fails, the washer will be unable to pump out the water in the drum nor will it be able to spin the drum or operate the agitator. The washer will sound as if something is running (the motor) but everything under the lid will remain motionless.

The belt is a replaceable part. If you smelled the belt burning, chances are it has been stretched or is missing chunks and is damaged. It should be replaced after unplugging the washer and disconnecting the supply hoses. Next, determine that nothing is jammed and everything moves as it should. This would be the pump and the transmission. You'll probably have to turn the washer on its side to access the belts. Be prepared to mop up water that will spill once laid on its side. If pump or transmission is jammed, the motor will probably burn up the new belt, too. Make sure nothing is preventing the agitator from working - this could be clothing wrapped around / under the agitator. It is possible that something has become lodged in the pump housing. You won't be able to see it - but you should be able to turn the pump - if either of these won't turn, you'll need to get them turning freely before you can expect the motor to spin the belts.

I hope this helps and good luck! Please rat emy reply. Thank you.

My tredmill works but after few mins I get burnt smell?

Treadmills are relatively simple machines, which means a burning smell can be quickly determined.

Check your treadmill belt for wear. Try to find where on the treadmill feels hot when you smell the burning. It could possibly be the electric motor or wiring giving out under load.

My wife put a load in last night and a couple of hours later the laundry room smelled like something was hot and the washer had stopped on the spin cylce. The control panel didn't feel hot but I unplugged...

Something caught in pump & belt burning. Motor start capacitor (If fitted) is US & needs replacing. Timer faulty, motor has burning smell, replace timer & or motor. Motor switchgear failed motor sitting there & humming, adjust switchgear or replace motor.

Washer does not spin, has a burning smell. took off front panel. motor pulley feels hot, so does belt. replaced belt 6/09. only wash one load per week. where is the burning smell coming from?

This sounds like a frigidaire washer. If it is, the belt must be the original equipment manufacturers belt. ANY other belt will just slip and burn. The fact that the pulley and the belt were both hot tells me that either the belt is the issue or your main tub bearing is starting to seize.

Burned rubber smell after replacing motor coupler, otherwise runs

The most common cause for the coupler failing is a bad gearcase. The machine should go through a neutral drain before the spin if it doesn't drain the water first it over works the motor trying to spin a full tub. No belt on this one, odor could be from the motor or the coupler starting to shred again.

My maytag washer has a burning smell.

What model do you have.?It doesn't sound like it was spinning.A frozen pump would make the belt burn and it would leave some water in the tub .
