The top guard should be set at 6mm and the bottom guard should be 2-3mm from the grinding wheel.

You would have to define 'it' for anyone to give you a definitive answer to that. I fix bird feeders and wind chimes by the top. I fix bench grinders from the bottom. I fix wall thermometers top and bottom. In a car, I can't think of anything where you have a choice?

    • 1 Remove the seat from your Kodiak, using the latch on the rear of the seat. Pull the gas tank side covers off your Kodiak's frame. Unscrew the gas cap. Unscrew the bolts at the base of the gas tank, using a 10 mm socket and a socket wrench, then lift the gas tank's cover off your Kodiak. Unscrew the gas tank's mounting bolts with a 10 mm socket. Lift the tank off your Kodiak's frame and unplug the gas line.
    • 2 Unbolt the front rack and bumper from your Kodiak, using a 12 mm socket and a socket wrench. Pull the plastic rivets out of the front fender's center panel, then pull the panel away to access the headlights' wiring. Unplug the headlights from their connectors. Unbolt the front fender from your Kodiak's frame, using a 5 mm Allen wrench and a 12 mm socket.
    • 3 Unplug the spark plug cable from the left side of the motor. Unscrew the spark plug with a spark plug socket and a socket wrench. Remove the intake tappet cover from the top of your Kodiak's motor and the exhaust tappet cover from the bottom of the motor, using a 6 mm Allen wrench.
    • 4 Remove the pull-start cover from the left side of the motor, using a 10 mm socket and a socket wrench to access the timing port and the motor's crankshaft. Unscrew the plug from the timing port, positioned to the right of the crankshaft, using a flat screwdriver.
    • 5 Place a 17 mm socket and a socket wrench over the end of the crankshaft. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise until a "T" mark is centered over the notch on the bottom of the timing port.
    • 6 Slide a .0039-inch feeler gauge between the intake valve and its rocker arm on the top of the motor. The gauge should slide between the valve and rocker arm with a small amount of resistance. If there is no resistance, the clearance between the valve and the rocker arm is too great. If the gauge cannot be inserted between the valve and the rocker arm, rotate the crankshaft one complete turn and take another measurement. If the gauge cannot be inserted after rotating the crankshaft, the valve clearance must be increased.
    • 7 Loosen the lock nut from the adjuster bolt on the top of the rocker arm, using a 10 mm box wrench. Turn the adjuster bolt clockwise with a flat screwdriver to reduce the valve's clearance or turn it counterclockwise to increase the valve's clearance. Check the valve clearance again with a .0039-inch feeler gauge. Hold the adjuster bolt steady with your flat screwdriver and tighten the lock nut against the rocker arm with your 10 mm box wrench.,
    • 8 Inspect the exhaust valve's clearance, using a .0079-inch feeler gauge. Follow the same method used to inspect and adjust the intake valve's clearance.
    • 9 Reassemble your Kodiak, following the reverse order of removal.

I have a Baldor 1022W grinder but i'm not sure how it is wired. I've tried looking for wiring schematics but have been unsuccessful. All I need to know is how to tell if the grinder is wired 115V...


first off what does the plug look like? that would be one clue and also usually under the bottom plate there is a wiring breakdown. Let me know if you need more help

I have an Abbott & Ashby 200mm Industrial Bench Grinder - CS-8GCM I need to change the sanding belt and am unsure how to do it, can you help?


Remove/open cover on the right side of belt assembly housing. push downward on tracking knob left side top of unit.Belt is spring tensioned to remove slack.Push down remove old belt,push down again for new belt.With belt running adjust belt track(centering) by turning knob,top of unit,toward or away from you,Arrow on inside of new belt governs direction of rotation of belt.

Bench Grinders Safety issues


Goggles or safety glasses need to be worn to protect the operator's eyes from the sparks and metal filings that result. Depending on the workpiece and time of exposure, hearing protection may also be required, the dust produced is also potentially hazardous. The toolrest (or workrest) should be mounted slightly below the center of the grinding wheel with less than 3 mm clearance from the wheel. This prevents the work from jamming between the toolrest and the wheel. Grinding wheels designed for steel should not be used for grinding softer metals, like aluminium. The soft metal gets lodged in the pores of the wheel and expand with the heat of grinding. This can dislodge pieces of the grinding wheel. Wire brushes require particular attention for the safety of the operator and bystanders as the metal wires may become dangerous projectiles as they could bind with the object being brushed and so throw it away with great energy. The machine needs to be securely mounted to a pillar or a bench to be used safely and effectively, often with an emergency stop switch or pedal fitted close by the machine, for use in emergencies.
