Question about Westinghouse L1975NW Monitor

1 Answer

I own a Westinghouse L1975NW, Power light Green, Image on screen just very dark, It fit the bill for the common backlight issues that this monitor seems to have. So I did the repairs, (Bought the kit- Two caps, Two Molfets, 4amp fuse) Ater everything worked beautifully! The Screen was funrtion for 2 days and on the 3rd day I turned on my computer and BAM Same Symptoms. I pulled it apart again everything I replaced seems fine, No damaged or swollen caps, None of the soldering is cross touching. I inspected the boards completely, Nothing blown, No caps swollen, No fuses burnt .... So Yeah, What's next?? Is there a backlight Lamp that may need to be replaced?? Again screen turns on, I can see images faintly and green light is steady (power) Any further info would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks :)

Did you recheck the MOSFETs? You will need a set of test lamps to test the inverter to see if it is the inverter or the lamp assemblies. I am surprised that the kit only contains 2 caps, it should have at least 4 caps, 2 each for the 5v and the 18vdc power supply section. Take the DC reading on the caps to see what you have, take the reading WITHOUT turn on the monitor (the power supply is running al the time), then turn on the montior to see if it maintains the output voltages.

Or www.digikey.com just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current, long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series.

My screen symtoms are a little different on my L1975NW.

I am guessing the LED power indicator blinks green then becomes steady when the screen "turns on" (shows video). The problem is most likely a failing backlight power supply. That's why there is a 30 minute delay. Try to disable sleep mode and see whether that helps.

I have the Westinghouse L1975NW

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Notes: When the caps went out, it may have raken out the fuse and the MOSFET in the inverter circuits with it also. http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-repair-a-Westinghouse-L1975NW-19quot-LCD-/

L1975NW Monitor: My monitor is very dark; too dark to even see how ...

More likely the backlight is not on, check the caps (leaking/bulging tops) in the power supply first, then check the fuse in the inverter circuits, when the caps went out it may have taken out the MOSFET for the inverter transformer with it. See failed WESTINGHOUSE and other monitors due to bad caps.

Goes dark for 5 to 10 second for no apparent reason?

Look for bad caps in the power supply, it will get worst and can take out the inverter fuse and the MOSFET.
