Question about Ducane Standard 2005 Grill

1 Answer

My ignitors are dead /dying on this 2005 grill. I can order replacement ignition kits but could the ignition module be at fault? How would you tell? It is a rotary knob ignition dual wire. What sequence of checking and reinstall do you suggest? Also, Weber has orphaned Ducane. No help or PDF's whatsoever. Do you know a source for Ducane 1305 user PDF? thanks

Igniters stop working. replaced once before. need new igniter.

The igniter is warrantied by the manufacturer for 3 years. And now you're on your second one. I was just wondering, have you changed the battery in the igniter button? If so, was it installed facing the same direction as the one you replaced? Was there any corrosion on the battery holder contacts? If so, a Q-Tip & WD40 does well cleaning it off. Also, the ground wire from the ignition module may be loose and is not making contact with the grill's frame. When that happens, the spark ignitors won't spark.

I hope these few things, that have been pointed out, will save you the trouble of having to replace another ignition module.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have an electrolux EOG6330 gas oven and when I light the grill the igniter continues to spark, the only wayto stop it,is to turn the grill off.Any body know what causes it and how to sort it?

Hello dishboy,

There are 2 possibilites causing that

1) The electrode(spark plug) for the grill is is built up with a bunch of grime and not telling the spark module the burner is lit and turn off the spark. The electrode could be cleaned with the green srubby side if a kitchen sponge,or relpaced.

2) The electrode is telling the spark module to turn off but the spark module isn't responding, to turn off the spark. The spark module would need to be replaced

I hope this helps,

Gene

This is aCG4TDBN (elite with no back burner) aprox 6 years old. The ignitors are starting to go bad. How do I replace them?

First, you need to determine if it is the spark ignitors going bad or the Ignition Module.
If the spark ignitor tips are covered with grease or residue, this will give them the appearance that they're failing. Cotton balls and alcohol, work well to clean the spark ignitors. Also, check the wiring from the spark ignitors back to the ignition module. There may be some wear or even a burn on the wiring. Change the battery in the ignition module. Be sure the new battery is facing the same direction as the old battery, when you install it. Before installing the new battery, check the battery holder for corrosion on the contacts. If you see any, use a Q-Tip and WD40 to remove it.

As far as replacing the ignitors is concerned, you may only have to replace the spark ignitors and not all the wiring. It depends on how the wire is attached to the spark ignitor. If it can be carefully pulled of the bottom tip of the ignitor and then si back on, all you need is the spark ignitor. If not, you'll need the spark ignitor with the wiring attached. All of the wiring, will then have to be fished back to the ignitor module.

More more info on all the parts you may need contact BBQ's Galore 800-752-3085.

I hope this helped you to troubleshoot and determine if any parts do need replacing.

I have been using the grill for about a year now. All of a sudden the electronic igniter dosen't spark on all control knobs. I checked the battery and replaced it with a new one. It did not change...

First, Bud make sure the battery was installed facing the proper direction. The Positive end (+) should be facing out when installed. If that's not the problem, check the wiring from the ignition module to the each burner ignitor. One may be loose or the grounding wire from the ignitor module to the grill's frame, may have lost contact. Also, look carefully at each ignitor tip at the burners. They may have an accumulation of grease, which needs to cleaned off.

If all that doesn't resolve the problem, you will need to replace the ignitor module. You can purchase one online directly from NEX Grill http://www.nexgrill.net/ or from Factory Appliance Parts
http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/search/index.php

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know and Happy Grilling!!

How to replace starter

Are you trying to replace the entire ignition system or just the battery operated starter module?

Neither is is extremely hard to do. The best way, is to keep most of the existing wiring in place to use as a guide. The Ignition Module is the easiest to remove. Unscrew the outer plastic ring of the igniter button and the module can be removed from under the control panel. If that's all you're planning to replace, leave the wires intact to the old module and transfer them one by one to the new module. Then install the new module in reverse order of the way you took the old one out. When you install the new battery into the new module, be sure the + end of the battery is facing you, when you slide it into the holder or it will not work.

If you're replacing the spark ignitor(s) at the burner, leave the existing wiring intact (unless it's damaged) . Remove the cooking grates, the flame tamer and the igniter shield and you will have access to the spark ignitor(s). Slide the wire off the spark ignitor pin, remove the old one and install the new one. Slide the ignitor wire onto the pin and you're ready to go.

A word of caution, always use Broilmaster Parts and watch your hands and fingers around any stainless steel parts. As, it they be very sharp and cut you before you realize it.

Hope this helps you replace the starter.

Please be kind enough to give me a good rating for the solution I provided you. Thanks and Happy Grilling!!

In June I bought a new Weber grill but the auto ignitor does not work--there is no click--therefore no spark. I can light the grill manually.

If there is no click, it is most likely the igniter module is bad. The igniter module should be available at any Home Depot or Lowe's; in any case, your owner's manual will show you how to remove and replace the igniter module. If you don't have the owner's manual, I will include a link to one online; you will need Adobe to open it. Here is the link: http://www.bbq.us.com/images_templ/weber-manual-3741001.pdf

Try this and if it doesn't fix your problem, come back and let me know and we will troubleshoot further. Good luck!
