IS it like the picture is being cut off? You may need to check the connections to your buffer boards and main logic boards.

Thanks,
Michael

My Model No. is DP42740 and I am not sure what you mean by buffer boards etc. The needle thin line is in from the left side of the screen about 2" and from the top of the top screen down about 3"

I see now that it is like the picture is being cut off . Could you explain where to check the connections please!

  • phatcav Apr 05, 2011

unplug the tv let it sit for about 30 minutes to let the electronics discharge - take the back of the tv off and you will see the buffer boards along the bottom of the tv panel -they are usually about 2 inches wide and there is probably two of them that are connected to each other that run the width of the plasma panel - make sure the ribbon cable that is in the vicinity of that line on the tv is well connected - also make sure the cable that plugs in to the logic board is connected well too. be very careful with the ribbon cables as they are directly connected to the plasma panel and if they break they can't be fixed. let me know what you find.

You have a completely different problem. The screen voltage for the blue picture tube is slightly too high on your set. This will put fine lines in the background of the picture, called retrace lines. This is very common and easy to correct. Remove the front speaker cover and the access panel behind it. Look inside and you will see a black box with six controls, each control having a little white glue on it. This is the Focus/Screen block. Three controls are labeled Focus and three are labeled Screen. The screen control in the center is for green but I am not sure if the screen control on the left or right is for blue for your model. With the TV on, set it to VIDEO 1 but do not connect anything to the VIDEO 1 jacks. This will produce a pure dark picture, showing any faint lines in the background. Choose one of the screen controls and increase (turn clockwise) it slightly. If the blue lines do not get brighter it means you are turning the red screen control, so put it back where it was and choose the other screen control. When you find the blue screen control, decrease (turn counter-clockwise) it until just when the blue lines are gone. If you want you can check that the red and green screen controls are set to just below the point where their faint lines are visible. When done, replace the panels and your picture will be back to perfect.

MikeNJ1964 was exactly right! I have a Sony KP-65WV600 that had horizontal green lines that showed when the picture was darker. I had to remove 3 screws on the right and left side of the tv holding in the speakers...carefully pop out the middle panel from the clips holding it in....remove 4 screws from the cardboard in the middle and remove the cardboard. I then saw the six screws. The adjustment screws were the three below. I turned the middle screw until the lines dissapeared. I tried the left screw and blue lines appeared which I then adjusted away.
THANKS a bunch. SAVED me money!!!

Black line

I just had this problem with my Samsung 50' DLP HLR5067WX/XAA. Fortunatly it was still under warranty with Best Buy, so they fixed it for me. They had to order a brand new light engine. (or where the mirrors are, if i'm not using the right terminalogy) He said the problem is with one of the mirrors that has slipped (or slipping because overtime the black line will get thicker and thicker). I hope i'm saying it right, but it was with a tiny mirror that was slipping. Hope it's under warranty. I've also had 1x component plug burn out on me, my HDMI port went to ****, and he's gotta come back out because when he made the repair, the picture was reflecting too high up and to the left. (MLB 2k7 for xbox 360 - scores on top of screen are about 1/4th cut off). He said is next trip back to my house would result in me getting a new TV, so can't wait for his arrival! good luck with your tv

Vertical, pencil-thin blue line appears after 10 minutes of viewing (any source)

I would suspect a connection breaking down as the set heats up. A shop will probably have to put the set in a stand to hold it while they check for loose connections or defective components inside. Not a DIY job by any means. If this line went completely through the picture either vertically or horizontally and stayed there then this would have indicated a failure in the Panel itself. A thin Line any where on the screen consisting of one pixel in width is a Panel Failure according to Hitachi.
