My amp blew one filter cap and some transistors and some mosfets.I replaced all 8 filter caps and transistors and the mosfets,but the protection led stays on. Where else do you think I can check? Your


You have what's known as DC Offset(a bad amplifier) you will need to check the drivers and all the fuse type resistors that are open. You need to check the rail voltages, both positive and negative, at the amplifier. You can't "shotgun" parts. You will need to check them. Be sure to reset the amp to factory defaults, but I doubt that it will help in your instance.This will be a tough repair if you're not an Audio Technician. You will need a Variac as well. Your amplifier is having a serious fault within preventing further damage to the amplifier. If could be a failure of the output mosfets, failure of the predriver, failure of the bias to the output mosfets, short inthe speakers- check this out- fault inthe error amp section for wrong current indiication or malfunctions in the mother board. All of this will need careful location of the fault by checking ont these stages. Porceed only if you are competent or seek help. Good day

Oh yes... I have repaired several of these supplies.
For the IGBT's use APT28GA60BD15 which are pricey at $9.28 from Digikey.com (still lower than alternative sources. Getting the heatsinks off, one of which has a thermal sensor as well is a real pain! Transformers don't fail...
The C2655's are really 2SC2655-Y and those I get from Allied. The mating 2SA1020-Y I believe is available either at Digikey.com or Mouser.com.
You will LIKELY find the IR2153 chip is blown and that I had to get from Allied. Usually one of the PL4148 surface mount gate drive speed up diodes is blown either short or open (D24 and D25).
Often transistor T9 is gonzo (BC856MTTCT).
Often the 10 or 22 ohm wirewound charging resistors are blown open. I use TWW10J20RE as replacemens for those. Be sure and use silicone to help support them.
Now when you are done with that, you need to find WHY the supply failed. It is either because a ceramic cap across the 85 volts failed OR one of the power amps arced out. If the unit has the HCA2400 amp in it I will tell you what happens: In the vicinity of the SPF9640 MOSFET and a big surface mounted cap will be an arc between layers of the multi-layer circuit board. This shorts and fries the IRFP250 MOSFET and BOTH SFP9640 MOSFETS. The repair of this is major involving carving out the "cancer" and reinsulating with epoxy and replacing blown carved out traces with hookup wire. The proceedure I can't document here, but failure to correct this will result in power supply failing again.
FOR YOUR SAFETY ONLY work on the supply using an isolation transformer. Use a 150 Watt lamp in series for testing to act as a fuse so you don't pop the supply again. DISCHARGE the 85 volt outputs BEFORE plugging the amps back on the power supply.

Yes! But it depends what you are willing to do. For instance if you can fix it yourself it will cutt the cost. The chances are you blew whatever was on the heatsink, all you need to do is look up those parts on the web and you will find out how much they cost. That will give you an idea how much a repairman will charge for parts anyway. Quote the numbers into google IE: 2SC1220.

Power up problem with alesis rs300 (ra300)


you have more than likely damaged some transistors.
the resistors have burned because of excessive current.
there are 2 typesof transistors,bipolar and mosfet
a bipolar transistor has 3 pins.1) base 2)emitter 3)collector.
an NPN is tested with the + meter lead on the base , and a PNP transistor with the - lead on the base.
TESTING
base to collector should read .5 to .6 v drop in one direction and open in the other with a digital meter on the diode check function.
base to emitter about the same,but slightly higher than the collector.
if base to collector is .5v then base to emitter is .52 or so.it is always higher than the base collector number.
between emitter and collector will read open in both directions.
if there is a short on any lead combination,the transistor is blown.
npn transistors operate on the positive rail power supply,and pnp on the negative rail.
typically a 150 watt amp will run + - 65vdc.
the transistors running on the plus side are npn and on the negative pnp.
most pnp output transistors are green.,but some are black,
so we must go by the numbers on the transistors, eg.A1076 is a pnp,B755 is a pnp and all transistors that have a C or D eg. D424 are NPN transistors. all A and B numbers are PNP and all C and D numbers are NPN.
MOSFET transistors have 3 pins 1)gate 2)drain 3)source
the source goes to power like the collector does. the drain is like the emitter,and the gate switches it on like the base does.
testing a mosfet is a different procedure.
a mosfet with k then a number e.g. k135 is a positive device like npn.
a mosfet with j and a number e.g. J50 is a negative device like pnp.
a mosfet reads open source to drain both directions.
for a positive (k number device) the plus meter lead goes on the source.,the black meter lead on the drain. on the diode test function.
jump a wire from the source to the gate for 1/2 second and remove the jumper while leaving the other two meter leads connected to the source and drain.The mosfet should switch on and the meter should show a short.that means the mosfet switched on.About 5 seconds later,the resistance from drain to source should go open.
for a p channel mosfet,it checks the same,except that the black meter lead goes on the source and gate .
a mosfet will stay switched on longer than the voltage applied to the gate,if it is driving a high impedance device such as a meter.
a bipolar transistor will not stay on when voltage is removed from the base lead.

My adcom gfa5500 .most of its output mosfets are shorted.


The colour code or the value it states on R23 should give you the reading you will see on a test meter on the Ohm setting. If the value doesn't match the colour code of the resistor then you should replace it. It's best to take any resistor out of the circuit to test as strange readings can be caused in circuit. The same applies to the left channel one. Ohm meters are not expensive if you don't have one and can be got from various places that sell electronics parts etc. Some car part dealers sell them. They are a worthwhile investment and can be used for many types of problem.
It's likely that it's a basis resistor and failed when the power jobs went.
