Question about Nikon D70s Digital Camera

3 Answers

I bought a Nikon D70 on ebay for a good price. It has a 28-80 lens. I can read the menu on the monitor, but it is black when I want to take a photograph. I can use the viewfinder, and take a picture, but I should be able to also see it on the monitor.

No, you shouldn't. The D70 works as SLRs have worked for half a century, allowing you to compose your photos through the viewfinder. The ability to use a dSLR as a point-n-shoot camera, wobbling at the end of your arms, is a relatively recent development. Nikon introduced it into their lineup with the D3 and D300, released years after the D70.

Check to make sure that you have the resolutions set correctly. I had a girlfriend that had an issue with this in the past and the way to fix it was making sure that the resolutions matched up on the monitor and your camera.

Good luck!

The camera is fine. The problem is that you're expecting a "Live View" feature, which is common on point-and-shoot compact cameras, but not on DSLR cameras like the D70. (As k_akima says, some newer entry-level DSLRs do have Live View.)

You have to use the viewfinder with this particular model.

I have Nikon af s 300mm f2.8, it only work with D3s, D300s but not with my D70. Can you tell me why and is it lens problem or camera

Hiyour lens should be af-s 300/2.8 vr.. nikon product are all compatible. which means your d70 something wrong I think. If you have bundle lens with d70, you can check it out easy. usually d70 comes with af-s 18-55 which is pretty much same work method with af-s 300. THanks and best regard!

I just bought the Tokina SD 12-24 F4 (IF) DX wide-angle lens for my D70, and it does not autofocus. I'm being told by the company I bought it from that i am past their 2 week return policy. Does this lens...

Only the MkII version of this lens has an autofocus motor built in, the MkI relies on a motor in the body of some Nikon AF SLRs to autofocus. The D70 does not have an inbuilt AF drive motor, so if you have the MkI lens then you can only use it in manual focus mode on your camera.

Camera will not power up changed battery just went dead Nikon D70

Fixing a Dead Nikon D70 - Green Blinking Light My first-generation Nikon D70, which I bought the day it was released to the market a few years back, died on me a few months ago. Without a card in it, it won't start, and when you insert a CF card in the slot, the green data-access indicator flashes on and off. If I hold down the Menu button, the menu flashes on and off along with the green LED.
d70_87x1.jpgAs it turns out, this is a known problem with the original Nikon D70 cameras, and Nikon USA has a service bulletin out on the camera body. They'll repair it free of charge.
So, if you have the same problem, visit this service bulletin page, http://nikonusa.com/Service-And-Support/Service-Advisories/D70-Service-Advisory.page click on the D70, and you can access a PDF file that you'll need to print, fill out and send to Nikon along with your camera body. Be sure to take your camera strap off and remove the battery, and don't send any lenses or other accessories.
Mine's on it's way to Nikon now - they say the turnaround is five days (plus shipping time).

Nikon D70 with brand new Sandik ultra11 2gb flash card error CHR

Go to the Nikon site and upgrade the firmware on your D70 to version 2.0.

Before doing that, try turning the camera off, wait a min, then back on. That sometimes clears the error. The D70 is having trouble reading the card(s) you're putting in. The upgrade fixes that.

D70 USB setting issue

Users of Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Mac OS 9.x may experience problems trying to download images from the Nikon D70 using Nikon View. Initial shipments of the D70 have the USB option in the "Set up" menu set to PTP - Picture Transfer Protocol. PTP is only compatible for downloading images with Windows XP and Mac OS X. To solve this issue please set the USB menu option to Mass Storage and then connect the camera to the computer. The D70's card will then mount like a removable disk and Nikon View will be able to transfer images
