I think you better check the oil, sounds like it may have ran out of oil and set up. If this is the case you are looking at a new Motor or Mower

Cord will not pull

Try removing the cover where the recoil starter assy is, could possibly be a dog ear jammed.. also as you loosen the screws or bolts, it may dislodge itself...

So that I understand the question better.... you're trying to pull the starter rope and it won't budge an inch??

I have tried to post my question several times, asking how to change the pull cord on my Poulan 625 series lawn mower, it hasn't posted and I can't seem to get an answer.

did this break at the pull handle? if so you will still be able to re-use the same cord.
you have to first remove the pull mechanizum from the top of the engine. turn it upside down and get the old pull chord off 'If it has broken at the engine end of the cord. You will find the end of the cord inside, remove it with a pair of pin nosed pliers.
If broken at the pull handle remove the broken and of the cord from the back side of the handle. There will be a knot tied in either end. Assuming you still have enough pull cord . Cut the broken end so it is not frayed slip it through the pull handle and tie a simple knot & make it tight with some pliers.
re wind the spring by hand winding the cord back into the spool.
now you need a small zap strap to hold it all in place until you reinstall the pull mechanizum on top of the engine.Once you have done this cut the zap strap off and retrieve it as you do.
Hint* "with only 2 hands" I have used pin nosed vice grips to hold back the spring while I tie it off with zap strap or stiff string.
If the cord if broken at the engine end you will need to line up the cord input with the cord journal and hold in place while you try to feed the cord back through. Hint* use a smaller peice of wire to feed through the opposite direction and wind it around the cord several times so you can pull it through to the inside of the pull mechanizum and tie a knot. Good luck

I have a puolan push mower that i put water in gas tank not knowing it was water , emptied it out put gas back in and it will not start . only when i try to prime it and pull cord will it start but shut...

If the fuel tank is higher than the carburettor and it has a float bowl, you could remove the bowl, empty it and allow the fuel to run out through the float valve until any water is gone. Any water should flow out first as it would be at the bottom of the tank.

We started the snowblower 2 weeks ago now it will not even turn over, the cord wont budge either

Have you tried pulling the spark plug out? If it still will not turn over, then quite possibly if it is a 2 cycle the gas mixture wqas not right & it got to hot. Try putting some Marvel Mystery oil in spark plug hole 7 let it set for a while then try pulling the cord. I have gotten them to loosen up with this process. Make sure gas mixture is correct before trying to restart.

I am trying to replace the cord on my mower, but the cord wont spring back in when I attempt to start it. Please help

the spring below the cord 'spool' must be wound tight before new cord is attached.disconnect cord, wind spool in the direction cord would pull it when starting until it stops & hold it there[spring is wound] release it enough to align & attach cord.release spool & allow it to wind cord onto spool.replace cover.

Starting issues. Can't pull cord.

Make sure your flywheel brake is not engaged or the cover is hindering the mechanism somehow after it is installed

RE: SEARS SELF PROPELLED LAWN MOWER 917.374750..WHEN PULLING THE CORD TO START THE MOWER ( AS USUALLY IS DONE ) THE CORD FAILS TO MOVE. CKED THE UNDERSIDE FOR POSSIBLE OBSTRUCTIONS & FOUND NONE.

Most lawnmowers manufactured over the past 15 years have a safety lever that needs to be pulled in to allow the mower to be started. This lever is normally located near the handrail and acts as a failsafe that shuts down the mower if you were to trip or release it . The intent is to protect you from injury if you let go of the handlebar. make sure you've puled in the safety lever before pulling on the cord .. otherwise, it shouldn't budge.. Hope this helps..
