Press [math] [0] to put the calculator into equation solver. Then you input your equation in 0 = format. So, the equation x/3 - 1/5 = 4/3 would be input as 0 = x/3 - 1/5 - 4/3 . Then press [enter] .

How do I solve for y, 2y + (y-3)=18 - 2 (y+3). with the casio fx-300es? and if I cant whats the calculator that will. thanx

Do you really need a calculator to solve a linear equation?
Let us see how to solve it without a calculator.
Remove the parentheses fronm the second term on the left : y-3
Use the distributive property on the last term on the right side -2y-6
Take the term -3 to the right side, changing its sign in the process (becomes +3)
Take the -2y term to the left making it +2y.
3y +2y=18+3-6 or 5y=15 and the answer is straightforward .

As to your Casio FX300ES, it cannot solve equations because it does not have an EQUATION calculation mode. The Casios FX-115ES and FX-991ES have an Equation Mode. If you use any of the two to solve an equation in one variable (linear, quadratic or other) the unknown is taken to be x by default. You would have to change the name of the variable from y to x.

2x^3+6x^2-x=3 I know -3 works for x. But so does -or+ square root of 2 divided by 2. I need the steps so I can see how you get -or+ square root of 2 divided by 2. The question says solve for x.

On most calculators with a solver function, you can specify a starting value for the variable (in this case x) after pressing [Solve] but before pressing the = key.

To get the three solutions, try entering the function, pressing [Solve] then an estimated starting point (say 0.5 or 0.7) then [=]. This should show the +root2/2 result (ie 0.7071067812).
You should not need to enter the function again.
Follow this by pressing [Solve] again, then another estimated starting point (say -0.5 or -0.7) then [=] to get the -root2/2 result.
Similarly, then press [Solve] again, and enter another estimated starting point (say -2) then [=] to get the final solution of -3.

On Casio calculators, the [Solve] function is usually found by pressing [Shift][Calc]. Note that the solver function generally won't return numbers in surd form, only as a decimal value.

How do i solve y=x-3

y = x -3
This is a linear problem- so the usual way to solve the graph would be to solve where x = 0 and y= 0
if you use the format y = slope (m) * x + y intercept (b)- you would set y = 0
at that point it would be 0 = x -3 x = 3 Therefore where y = 0, x = 3. In a graph, that would point to the coordinate (3,0) for the x-intercept. To find the y-intercept, you'd set x = 0 at that point, you'd have the y-intercept being (0,-3)
so if y = 1, x would be 4; if y = 2, x = 5, and so on

I want to know how to solve the Cubic equation on TI-89 Calculator

There are a lot of ways to do it. One is to write a program using the cubic formula. If you just want the roots, use the solve() or zeros() functions.

For example, to find the zeros of x^2-6x^2+11x-6, enter
solve(x^3-6*x^2+11*x-6=0,x)
or
zeros(x^3-6*x^2+11*x-6,x)

Note that solve() has "=0" in it while zeros() does not.

solve() will give you an answer of
x=1 or x=2 or x=3
while zeros will give you an answer of
{1 2 3}
which plainly are the same thing, just expressed differently.

Need help in Algerbra, how to solve this problem 3(8)+3(5+3)=_x(10+2)

3(8)+3(5+3)=x(10+2) First add numbers in ()
3(8)+3(8)=x(12) Now multiply the numbers next to ()
24+24=12x Now add the 24 +24
48=12x Now we have to solve for x. 12x is actually 12 times x. in order to solve for x we have to do the opposite and divide by 12
48=12x
12 12

4=1x is the same as 4=x.

Can it solve 8^x=4 ???

Hi,
You can use algebra to solve it.
Use the fact that 4 =2^2 and 8=2^3 and substitute in the equation
(2^3)^x =2^(3*x)
Then 2^(3*x)=2^2
By equating the exponents
3x=2 and x=2/3

Using the solve( function
With the calculator physical keys between square brackets, and the SHIFTed or ALPHA keys between parentheses, type in the following
8 [^ ] [ALPHA] [ ) ] (X) [ALPHA][CALC] ( =) 4 [SHIFT][CALC] (SOLVE)

Once the foregoing command entered press [=]
Display shows Solve for X on top line and probably 0.000 on bottom line.
Press [.] 5 to give 0.5 as a guess for the value of x
After a moment the calculator returns with the solution.
The display shows three lines
1st Line: 8[^] X =4
2nd Line: X= 0.66666666
3rd Line : L-R =0.

Your solution is 0.6666666. In fact the exact solution is 2/3.

Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa and for rating this solution.

How do i use the solve( function

Hello,
The solve( is available through the CATALOG : [2nd][CATALOG], scroll down till you reach the command. Highlight it and press [ENTER]. The command echodes on main screen as solve( .
You complete the command by entering the expression (not the equation), the name of the variable you solve for, the initial guess , and { lower limit, upper limit} between curly brackets, and the closing parenthesis.
Exemple:
solve ( Q^3-100, Q,0 {-50,50} ) [ENTER]
It is implied that the expression is 0 (Q^3-100 =0), so you should not insert =0, otherwise you get an error. Here the lower limit is -50. You must use the change sign symbol (-) under the 3 key, not the regular MINUS.
Hope it helps.

How do i solve for x on my ti-89?

First to solve a problem, write it like this

solve(3/x-2+21/x^2-4=14/x+2,x)

Second, for inverse, do this (note the "y=" part)

solve(y=3x^2 -2x+1,x)

The calculator will rewrite the formula as x = ...
